Day 1 - Arrive Darwin

The starting point of your journey is the tropical capital of the north, where you'll check into your overnight accommodation. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the city.

Day 2- Darwin to Kakadu National Park (B, L)

As you travel along the Arnhem Highway, the excitement level escalates. Soon you'll be in the heart of Kakadu National Park enjoying a full day of immersive experiences. You'll cruise the Yellow Water Billabong, search for saltwater crocodiles, see a variety of informative displays at the Warradjan Cultural Centre and be guided to ancient rock art galleries at Nourlangie.

Day 3 - Kakadu National Park to Darwin (L)

At the World Heritage area of Ubirr, you guide will reveal art sites dating back more than 20,000 years. On your way to join the Guluyambi Cruise on the East Alligator River, you'll visit a lookout to take in the majestic vistas of the Kakadu wetlands. Later, with special permission of the traiditional owners, you'll go ashore in Arnhem Land, finishing with a visit to the Bowali Visitor Centre.

Your day is free to enjoy Darwin.

Day 5 - Board The Ghan Expedition in Darwin (B, L, D)

Today, you join The Ghan Expedition and your first Off Train Excursion is soon underway when you choose from a range of options in Katherine.

After your first night on The Ghan, you'll wake in the Red Centre of Australia, Alice Springs. Prepare for a day of fascinating excursions and, in the evening, dine under a million stars.

Day 7 - The Ghan Expedition, Coober Pedy(B, L, D)

When you next disembark in remote Manguri, you'll enjoy a full day exploring the amazing opal mining township of Coober Pedy.

Day 8 - The Ghan Expedition, Adelaide & Kangaroo Island (B, D)

Pass through the majestic Flinders Ranges as you head towards Adelaide. On arrival, transfer to the airport for your flight to magical Kangaroo Island. You will be met by your guide for transfer to your accommodation.

Day 9 - Kangaroo Island (B, L, D)

Commence your two-day tour this morning. Walk through Lathami Conversation Park, visit a beautiful beach to stroll among Australian sea lions and then head off to explore more of the island.

Day 10 - Kangaroo Island to Adelaide

See the island's wild side today in Flinders Chase National Park. Then it's onward to dramatic Cape du Couedic and Remarkable Rocks. After more touring, you'll be transferred to the airport for your return to Adelaide.

Day 11 - Barossa Valley Day Tour from Adelaide (B, L)

Today you'll be touring the Barossa Valley - one of the world's great wine regions With exclusive cellar door experiences, you'll be hosted by passionate vignerons explaining what makes this region and its wines so special.

You'll enjoy private single or twin share cabin together with all-inclusive dining and beverages. During the day, the compact Twin Berth Sleeper Cabins offer a comfortable three seater lounge, converting to an upper and lower sleeping berth at night. Twin Berth cabins have private ensuite facilities with a hide-away compact toilet, wash basin and shower.

Can I fly out the same day as the train arrives? We highly recommend that guests do not book flights same day as arrival without allowing for late running trains. This would mean allowing for at least 3-5 hours after the scheduled arrival time, and an overnight stopover.

How much luggage can I take with me? Guests should bring an overnight bag to their cabin containing everything needed for the journey. Each guest travelling are entitled to checked in luggage, however checked in luggage cannot be accessed during the journey. In Gold service guests are allowed 2 bags x 30kg and guests travelling in Platinum Service are allowed 3 bags x 30kg.

Can I take any pets or animals with me on-train? No - the only animals permitted on GSR services are specially trained dogs for the vision and hearing impaired.

Can I take my walking frame/wheelchair/ scooter on board the train? No - these items must be checked-in as stored luggage. A specially modified pushchair can be requested for use on train (with the assistance of a Carer or travelling companion) - PLEASE INFORM US AT TIME OF BOOKING.

What medical assistance do the on-train staff provide? Staff are trained to administer basic first aid, however our staff are not able to provide routine medical aid during a journey. Guests requiring medical attention or mobility assistance on board any of our trains are required to arrange for their own Carer to travel with them.

Can my necessary medication be refrigerated? Yes subject to space within our on-board fridge compartments - PLEASE INFORM US AT TIME OF BOOKING.

Can I take oxygen onboard? Yes - PLEASE INFORM US AT TIME OF BOOKING.

Does the train carry power outlets for CPAC machines? Cabins on the Indian Pacific have 240V power outlets installed which can be used for a CPAC machine. It is recommended that a surge arrestor/protector be used to protect the machine when it is plugged in case of a power surge.

Do I need any cash or credit cards onboard? As the rail journeys are all-inclusive you will not need to buy anything unless you choose to purchase an Off-Train Excursion upgrade or souvenirs, which you can do onboard utilising our EFTPOS or credit card facilities.

Dress Code onboard the train? Smart casual attire is suggested for guests travelling in Platinum Service and Gold Service. Warm clothes are recommended for evenings onboard the train, as the air-conditioning can be cool. It is recommended that guests pack a hat, sunscreen and comfortable walking shoes for off-train touring. Sensible shoes are advisable for walking between carriages. Long, sturdy pants may be required for some Off-Train Excursions.
