Next, it’s Ushuaia, Argentina, the southernmost city in the world that calls the stunning banks of the Beagle Channel home. Chase waterfalls, hike dense forests, or dine in the surprising array of restaurants and bars. Be sure to try the king crab pie—a local favourite.
As you drift through a world of implausibly blue icebergs, you may find the experience of the Antarctic Sound surreal, but the only dreaming you’ll be doing is during our overnight cruising in this magical port. As you explore the frozen landscape, keep your eyes peeled for penguins, seals, and blue whales.
The ice-covered Elephant Island is next, named for the elephant seals that reside here. In addition to its wildlife, the island is most famous as the refuge of Ernest Shackleton and his crew, following the loss of their ship Endurance. In Port Stanley, the islands play host to more penguins than people, and travelers can enjoy the antics of approximately half a million of them during nesting season.

Day 1: Buenos Aires, Argentina
Welcome to elegant, cosmopolitan Buenos Aires, with its European colonial architecture and colourful mix of cultures. Each district has its own style: enjoy Palermo with its mansions and parks; shop in the chic boutiques of Soho and Hollywood; and soak up the Italian flavour of La Boca where tango dancers and artists display their talents for passersby.
Day 2: Montevideo, Uruguay
Montevideo exudes European charm and elegance, with broad boulevards, fountains, stately squares, and irresistible sidewalk cafes. Take in the Art Nouveau pedestrian mall, Art Deco Centenary Stadium, and American Embassy designed by I.M. Pei. Most of the nation’s countryside is farm or ranchland, and the life of the cowboy, or gaucho, is part of the local lore.
Days 3-5: At Sea

Day 6: Ushuaia, Argentina
Alive with marine life offshore, Ushuaia has fully embraced its reputation as a hub of outdoor adventure at the tip of Argentina. This is the southern extreme of Tierra del Fuego, a national park with hiking trails and walking paths through thick forests, inhabited by native birds and beavers, where seals, sea lions, and seabirds can be found in abundance.
Day 7: At Sea
Spend the day sailing in style aboard your boutique hotel at sea. Indulge in a treatment at Sanctum Spa, stay ship shape with a class at our fitness center, or lounge the day away on our sunny pool deck.

Days 8-9: Antarctic Sound/Peninsula
This frozen continent at the ends of the Earth cannot sustain permanent inhabitants, but the part it plays in the Earth’s weather and water levels is so crucial that 28 nations maintain research stations here. The peninsula sweeps up towards the tip of South America, and provides good habitats for penguin rookeries, and these beguiling birds return each year to mate, dressed in their best tuxedos.
Day 10: Elephant Island, Antarctica
This mountainous, ice-covered island off the coast of Antarctica was named for the elephant seals early explorers sighted on its shores. It is most famous as the refuge of Ernest Shackleton and his crew, following the loss of their ship Endurance. Retracing Shackleton’s legendary journey—and seeing the island where this incredible feat of courage occurred—is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Day 11: At Sea
Day 12: Port Stanley, Falkland Islands
These remote, windswept islands with a human population of about 3000, support half a million sheep, and as many as a million penguins during the summer nesting season, making it one of the world’s great penguin capitals. Five of the 17 species are represented, and observing their antics is a most pleasurable pursuit.

Day 15: Punta Del Este
Punta del Este's white sand beaches are popular with families and the glitterati alike. Fashionable cafes and shops line the streets, and an evening harbor-front stroll will no doubt include a serenade by street musicians and entertainers. The town projects an artsy vibe, with the Brava Beach open air sculpture park, displaying large works in steel, concrete, wood, iron, and marble.
