Day 2: Port Augusta

Wake up bright and early for a day of travel, but not before grabbing a bite to eat at a local café to fuel you before your trip. Hit the road in your rental car and set off on a scenic 3-hour drive towards Port Augusta, a coastal town overlooking the Spencer Gulf. Check into your accommodation at the award-winning Majestic Oasis Apartments before delving into all that this quaint town has to offer.

  • Climb the Water Tower Lookout: For panoramic views of Port Augusta, head to the iconic Water Tower Lookout. Climb the 153 steps to the top and be rewarded with breathtaking vistas of the Spencer Gulf, the Flinders Ranges in the distance, and the industrial heart of the town.
  • Wander the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden: Immerse yourself in the sounds and scents of Australia’s arid heart in this distinctive 250-hectare botanic garden. Discover the exceptional arid-zone plant collections, peruse the gift shop and unwind in the garden cafe with a delicious homestyle meal.”

Day 3: Flinders Ranges

Rise early and fuel up with a hearty breakfast before beginning your 2-hour drive to the Flinders Ranges, a vast and ancient wilderness carved by time. Arrive at Rawnsley Park Station, your unique outback home for the next two nights. This award-winning accommodation is still a working sheep station today and blends modern comfort with outback charm, offering stunning views of Ikara-Wilpena Pound, a natural amphitheatre formed over millions of years.

The hotel is conveniently located opposite the Adelaide Convention Centre, Adelaide Casino and Parliament House, and within walking distance to Adelaide Oval, the Festival Centre, River Torrens, Adelaide's historic parklands, cinemas and boutique shopping.

Majestic Oasis Apartments, Port Augusta

Rawnsley Park Station, Flinders Ranges
Rawnsley Park Station is owned and managed by fourth generation Flinders Ranges’ residents, Tony and Julieanne Smith. The station has been in the Smith family since 1953, and was originally owned by Tony’s father, Clem Smith. Initially devoted to sheep shearing, the station ventured into tourism in 1968, when the first cabins were opened and sheep shearing demonstrations began.

Tony and Julieanne took over Rawnsley Park in 1985 and, since then, have transformed a small, struggling sheep station into an award-winning tourism facility that attracts 20,000 visitors each year. Though tourism is the main industry on the property, the Station still runs 2000 sheep.

Discovery Parks, Barossa Valley
There are very few wine lovers who have not sampled a drop from the Barossa Valley. Australia's best-known wine region and South Australia's most visited tourist destination is also the home of Discovery Parks - Barossa Valley. Just a few minutes from the centre of Tanunda, the park is a great place to begin your tour. Explore the vine-covered plains and hills that surround charming townships and Lutheran churches, with their distinctive square spires dotting the rural landscape.
