Day 1 - Board The Ghan in Adelaide(L, D)

All aboard the Ghan for your departure from Adelaide There's no better viewpoint to watch the rolling pastoral lands of South Australia change into rugged Mallee scrub, as the spectacular Flinders Ranges disappear into the horizon.

Day 2 - The Ghan, Alice Springs (B, L)

Wake up with a coffee and step off the train to witness an unforgettable outback sunrise at Marla - a remote outpost 160km from the Northern Territory border. After more incredible outback scenery, you'll arrive into Alice Springs in the early afternoon and transfer to your accommodation.

Day 3 - Alice Springs to Kata Tjuta (B)

This morning you'll depart Alice Springs and travel south through the MacDonnell and James Ranges. Marvel at the majestic Attila (Mount Conner) before arriving at Ayers Rock Resort. Enjoy the afternoon experiencing the natural wonders, unique flora and native wildlife of the area, as you travel to the mystical 36 domes of Kata Tjuta. An unforgettable day fades to dusk as you enjoy a glass of sparkling wine under an equally sparkling outback sky.

Day 4 - Uluru & Kata Tjuta (D)

Watch the glistening sunrise over Uluru as you begin day four of your adventure. Your connection with the environment continues as you explore Kata Tjuta and Walpa Gorge, uncovering its unusual rock formations, before touring the base of Uluru. You'll see ancient rock art and get to know the rich Aboriginal and European history of the area. Watch day turn to night as the sun sets over Uluru, finishing with an Aussie barbecue under the stars.

Day 5 - Uluru to Kings Canyon

This morning take some time to relax in the Red Centre or explore the resort. See artists at work, learn more about the region's history, geology, flora and fauna in the museum, enjoy the smells and sights of native gardens, or a bush yarn at the Circle of Sand. In the afternoon, join your tour to Kings Canyon

Day 6 - Kings Canyon to Alice Springs

Today, experience the majestic views over the Watarrka National Park as you challenge your senses on a rim walk of Kings Canyon. But don't worry if heights aren't for you, there is an alternative (and easier) walk across the boulder-strewn canyon floor. Then it's a well-earned rest after you head back to Alice Springs.

Day 7 - Leisure Day (B)

Explore Alice Springs at your own pace. This small outback town is rich in history. Enjoy its many walking trails, which are well signposted and provide insightful facts on the region. No trip to Alice is complete without experiencing a camel ride for yourself - these gracious animals and their Afghan handlers played a vital role in outback history, their service reflected in The Ghan's emblem.

Day 8 - Farewell from Alice Springs (B)

This morning your adventure to the Red Centre comes to an end. On checking out of your accommodation, it's time for your journey home.

Platinum Service (twin and double share):

Boasting deluxe extras such as Platinum Transfers, in-cabin breakfasts and access to the Platinum Lounge and Restaurant, Platinum Service promises and delivers a journey beyond expectations. The first thing you'll notice about your Platinum cabin is the abundance of space, almost twice the size of a Gold Twin Cabin. By day your cabin is configured as a private lounge with deluxe lounge seating, a table and two ottomans. By night you'll sleep easy as the lounges convert to a comfortable bedroom with either a double bed or twin beds.

Gold Superior (double share): Limited cabins available

A Superior cabin in Gold Service is a unique way to travel. You'll enjoy private accommodation together with all-inclusive dining, beverages and a range of fascinating off-train excursions.

Gold Superior cabins feature a ¾ size double bed plus an additional fold down upper berth, lounge area, TV and DVD player, mini-bar and en suite. In-cabin music channels and journey audio commentary are available and power outlets can be found in cabins.

Gold Service (Single and twin share):

You'll enjoy private cabin accommodation together with all-inclusive dining, beverages and a range of fascinating Off Train Excursions at key stops. Gold Service accommodation is available in both single and twin-share so you can choose to travel with your partner, friends or roll solo.

During the day, the compact Twin Berth Sleeper Cabins offer a comfortable three seater lounge, converting to an upper and lower sleeping berth at night. And with top notch service from our hospitality attendant, you'll enjoy fresh sheets, bath towels, pillows, doonas and complimentary toiletries. Can I fly out the same day as the train arrives? We highly recommend that guests do not book flights same day as arrival without allowing for late running trains. This would mean allowing for at least 3-5 hours after the scheduled arrival time, and an overnight stopover.

How much luggage can I take with me? Guests should bring an overnight bag to their cabin containing everything needed for the journey. Each guest travelling are entitled to checked in luggage, however checked in luggage cannot be accessed during the journey. In Gold service guests are allowed 2 bags x 30kg and guests travelling in Platinum Service are allowed 3 bags x 30kg.

Can I take any pets or animals with me on-train? No - the only animals permitted on GSR services are specially trained dogs for the vision and hearing impaired.

Can I take my walking frame/wheelchair/ scooter on board the train? No - these items must be checked-in as stored luggage. A specially modified pushchair can be requested for use on train (with the assistance of a Carer or travelling companion) - PLEASE INFORM US AT TIME OF BOOKING.

What medical assistance do the on-train staff provide? Staff are trained to administer basic first aid, however our staff are not able to provide routine medical aid during a journey. Guests requiring medical attention or mobility assistance on board any of our trains are required to arrange for their own Carer to travel with them.

Can my necessary medication be refrigerated? Yes subject to space within our on-board fridge compartments - PLEASE INFORM US AT TIME OF BOOKING.

Can I take oxygen onboard? Yes - PLEASE INFORM US AT TIME OF BOOKING.

Does the train carry power outlets for CPAC machines? Cabins on the Indian Pacific have 240V power outlets installed which can be used for a CPAC machine. It is recommended that a surge arrestor/protector be used to protect the machine when it is plugged in case of a power surge.

Do I need any cash or credit cards onboard? As the rail journeys are all-inclusive you will not need to buy anything unless you choose to purchase an Off-Train Excursion upgrade or souvenirs, which you can do onboard utilising our EFTPOS or credit card facilities.

Dress Code onboard the train? Smart casual attire is suggested for guests travelling in Platinum Service and Gold Service. Warm clothes are recommended for evenings onboard the train, as the air-conditioning can be cool. It is recommended that guests pack a hat, sunscreen and comfortable walking shoes for off-train touring. Sensible shoes are advisable for walking between carriages. Long, sturdy pants may berequired for some Off-Train Excursions.
