27 March 2024 Singapore – Kota Kinabalu
After breakfast and check-out this morning, you will be met by an English-speaking assistant and transferred to the Singapore airport to board your flight to Kota Kinabalu (flight not included). On arrival into Kota Kinabalu airport, you will be met by an English-speaking assistant and transferred to your hotel for check-in. The remainder of the day will be at leisure.
28 March 2024 Kota Kinabalu
This morning, transfer approximately 3 hours to the Poring Hot Springs, stopping en-route at Nabalu village to taste the local fruits and shop for handicrafts. On arrival at the springs, observe the wildlife on the canopy walkway and take a dip in one of the soothing, hot mineral springs set in the beautifully landscaped gardens. Afterwards, proceed to the World Heritage site of Kinabalu National Park to explore the mountain gardens, home to many species of orchids, pitcher plants, birds, insects and butterflies. This evening, transfer to a local restaurant to enjoy traditional Malay dishes for dinner.
29 March 2024 Kota Kinabalu
Today, enjoy a half-day tour of Kota Kinabalu. Begin by visiting the Yayasan Sabah (Sabah Foundation) building, one of the few buildings in the world to utilize a single column structure. Next, head to Phu Thou Se Chinese Temple, the Sabah State Mosque and the Sabah Museum, home to fine exhibits that chronicle Sabah's fascinating historical past and rich cultural heritage. Later, return to your hotel for an evening at leisure.
30 March 2024 Kota Kinabalu – Sandakan – Sepilok – Kinabatangan River – Abai
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Sandakan (flight included). On arrival, head to the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary where captive orangutans are reintroduced into the wild. You will be able to observe them at their feeding stations in the rainforest and at the nursery (if open). Next, proceed to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre (BSBCC). This centre rescues captured sun bears and is involved in sun bear conservation, welfare rehabilitation and education. Over 30 sun bears live at the centre in the bear house and outdoor enclosures.
Afterwards, depart Sepilok and proceed to the boat jetty in Sandakan. You will then enjoy an hour boat cruise up the Lower Kinabatangan River, passing pristine mangrove forests and searching for wildlife long the way. Arrive at Abai Jungle Lodge and have lunch, then enjoy some free time before embarking on another cruise in search of proboscis monkeys, birds, reptiles and other wildlife. Return to the lodge for dinner before taking a guided night walk around the lodge’s nature boardwalk and search for insects, birds and other wildlife.
Please note: You will need to prepare a small bag for your stay in the Kinabatangan for the next three nights.
31 March 2024 Pitas Lake – Abai – Sukau – Menanggul River
Early this morning, embark on another boat trip for bird watching and wildlife viewing at the nearby Pitas Lake before returning to the lodge for breakfast. Later this morning, cruise upriver to Sukau and check-in to your lodge on arrival. Enjoy lunch here before cruising up the Kinabatangan River to the Menanggul River in search of proboscis monkeys, birds and other wildlife. Afterwards, return to the lodge in time for dinner this evening.
01 April 2024 Oxbow Lake – Menanggul River
Rise early this morning and take another boat trip for bird watching and wildlife viewing at the nearby Ox Bow Lake. Afterwards, return to the lodge for breakfast before proceeding for another river cruise this afternoon for more wildlife viewing. Finally, return to the lodge in time for dinner this evening.
02 April 2024 Sukau – Sandakan – Kota Kinabalu
After breakfast and check-out, transfer to Sandakan by boat for another chance to spot the wildlife along the way. Make a stop at Abai Jungle Lodge en-route for short break, before continuing the journey downriver. On arrival at Sandakan jetty, enjoy lunch followed by a transfer to the airport for flight back to Kota Kinabalu (flight included). On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel for check-in.
03 April 2024 Depart Kota Kinabalu
After breakfast and check-out, you will be met by an English-speaking assistant and transferred to Kota Kinabalu airport to board your onward flight (flight not included).
