Please note the following itinerary is subject to change without notice.
Day 1 – Monday – Depart Brisbane / Arrive Gladstone
Board your Qantas Flight from Brisbane to Gladstone, we recommend QF2336 departing Brisbane at 1:30pm and arrive in Gladstone at 2:40pm (Flight price not included in the package).
On arrival you will be transferred from the airport to the Mantra Gladstone, your home for the next 5 nights. Enjoy a welcome dinner at the hotel restaurant — the perfect chance to meet the fellow over-60 guests you'll be sharing the adventure with.
Day 2 – Tuesday - Discovery Coast
Around 90 mins south of Gladstone lies the Discovery Coast, where we'll visit Agnes Water and the historical Town of 1770.
Today we'll take the unique "LARC + Lunch" experience. Board an all-terrain vehicle for a comfortable journey across land and water. Learn about the indigenous history and Captain James Cook’s visit as you venture across two water ways and edge along the beautiful scenery of Eurimbula National Park. We'll hop off on a gorgeous golden stretch of foreshore: a beautifully secluded area where the only footprints in the sand are your own. Lunch will be served under the shade of an old casuarina tree in the most “beach front” setting you can get!
Enjoy some free time prior to being collected for dinner at Yachties, honourably awarded “Best Small Social Club” twice, and best known as the destination point of the Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race, the Gladstone Yacht Club was designed to take full advantage of its exceptional location.
Day 3 – Wednesday - City Sights and Industry
Today we'll take a good look at what makes up the city. We'll travel down to the twin towns of Boyne Island and Tannum Sands, swing past Boyne Smelter Millenium Esplanade and enjoy an optional lunch at Tannum Sands Hotel (own expense). On the way back to Gladstone, we'll visit a Barramundi hatchery which breeds and releases around 200,000 fingerlings per annum into Lake Awoonga. You might even get to feed one of these metre-long fish from the brood stock.
Later in the day we'll enjoy some ten pin bowling and finger food at Central Lane Hotel. This complex is brand new, designed to be accessible to all age groups and fitness levels.
Day 4 – Thursday - Boyne Valley
Today is an opportunity to explore the wide-open spaces of Boyne Valley, with a choice of easy and accessible walking and biking options.
The bike option is an easy self-paced way to enjoy the area. Cycle down the gentle slope of a rail trail, passing through historic tunnels, and stop off at various key points for photo ops and audio guide commentary. Bikes and audio equipment are provided.
For those not wishing to ride, it’s a 600m walk to view the first tunnel, from the carpark, where the original track is still in place. We recommend taking stroll to the next tunnel, then returning to the coach for a lift to the Golembil siding, where we'll meet the rest of the group.
Dinner this evening is at Auckland House overlooking the entrance to Auckland Creek and the Harbour. Dine while watching the sun set over Mt Larcom. This place also has its own brewery. The Yellowpatch Larger is a must-try!
Day 5 – Friday - Gladstone Free Time + Curtis Island
The morning is yours to enjoy at leisure, with transportation around the city for some retail therapy. In the afternoon take a gentle cruise on the vehicle barge around Curtis Island. There are tea/coffee and bar services on board. Dinner this evening is at Pacinos Italian Restaurant within the Mantra Hotel complex.
Day 6 – Saturday - Farewell
Enjoy breakfast prior to being transferred to the airport for your flight back to Brisbane and wave a fond farewell to Queensland's Central Coast. We recommend QF2335 departing Gladstone at 11:40am and arriving in Brisbane at 12:50pm (Flight price not included in the package).
