Discover Switzerland from a truly unforgettable perspective as you journey through the heart of the Alps on some of the world’s most scenic railways. This beautifully paced tour combines legendary panoramic train journeys with charming alpine towns, pristine lakes and dramatic mountain landscapes. Glide past snow-capped peaks, deep valleys and storybook villages as Switzerland’s engineering marvels deliver you in comfort to places few other journeys can reach.
From our base in Davos, this rail tour of Switzerland features two of its most iconic ‘express’ journeys. Board the Bernina Express to climb the vertiginous 2,253m Bernina Pass and descend the incredible 110 m-long spiral viaduct at Brusio. Then marvel at the astonishing Alpine views from the gratifyingly slow-paced Glacier Express, and swap rails for water as we cruise scenic Lake Constance.
Along the way, enjoy time in elegant cities and tranquil resorts, with guided sightseeing and free time to soak up the atmosphere at your own pace. From sparkling lakes and flower-filled meadows to towering mountain passes, each day reveals a new postcard-perfect view. With quality accommodation, expert tour management and seamless rail travel throughout, this is a relaxed and inspiring way to experience the very best of Switzerland.

Day 2 - Davos
Enjoy a guided morning walking tour of Davos to introduce you to Europe’s highest city. Davos is a year-round destination. In the summer, enjoy free access or discounted prices on gondolas, cable cars, and trains, providing access to the mountain trails and amazing views. Many of these mountain cable cars end at mountain restaurants offering amazing views for lunch, and there are countless well-marked hiking trails close to town. Your afternoon is at leisure.
Day 3 - Davos - Tirano (by Bernina Express & coach)
We’ll travel on the Bernina Express for one of the most impressive rail journeys in Switzerland. We’ll set off and begin the 2,253-metre climb into the glaciated Alps. We’ll speed through 55 tunnels and cross 196 bridges on our way to historic Tirano. This pretty little town is a wonder to explore, and we’ll enjoy some time in the old centre before returning to Davos by coach. (Please note, this itinerary may operate in reverse on the day.)
Day 4 - Davos
Take time to enjoy your surroundings with a day at leisure. Perhaps make use of your included discount pass and enjoy cable-car rides up onto the Jakobshorn, Parsenn, or Rinerhorn. Or, if you seek rest amid unspoilt nature, head off on foot, by bike or by horse-drawn carriage up the romantic side valleys of Sertig, Dischma or Flüela.
Day 5 - Andermatt
We join the famous Glacier Express train for a breathtaking journey through the high Alps to the traditional Swiss resort of Andermatt. The ‘slowest express train in the world’ takes you through the heart of Switzerland, with stunning views of the impressive Alpine landscape, from the depths of the Rhine Gorge up to the 2033-metre-high Oberalp Pass. For more than 80 years, the Glacier Express has borne witness to some of the proudest pioneering feats of Alpine railway engineering, including no fewer than 91 tunnels and 291 bridges.
Day 6 - Vaduz - Lake Constance - Lindau
We have a full day ahead of us today, starting with a short stop in Vaduz to enjoy views of the Rhine and the castle. From here, we journey onward to Lake Constance, where we cross the border into Germany and stop at Lindau, a charming Bavarian lakeside town. Then, we cruise across the tranquil lake before rejoining the coach for the journey back to Davos.
Day 7 - Davos
With your day of leisure, perhaps visit Davos Lake or the Monstein Brewery - the highest brewery in Europe.
