Fiji: Adults-only boutique stay at the Matamanoa Island Resort

Day 1: Land at Fiji’s Nadi International Airport and meet your friendly Fijian representative. He’ll guide you to your private car transfer to Port Denarau. Post a short ride to the marina, you’ll board the boat sailing to the resort island in the Mamanucas. Reach the island, and receive a warm welcome, a shell lei and a drink in hand while you’re being checked in. It’s already sounding wonderful, isn’t it?

The next few days, choose to relax or liven it up. One popular choice is to start with some great swimming, snorkelling and freestyle diving. We recommend you sign up for some guided snorkelling safaris and scuba-diving charters, too. The resort also organises fishing charters and handline fishing for enthusiasts. We’ve included a visit to Modriki Island (yes, from the Tom Hanks movie). It’s a full day tour and easily among the highlights of your stay. The sailing ship taking you to the island is ‘victualled up’ and will be busily making you a scrumptious BBQ lunch, besides morning and afternoon tea and snacks. You’ll spend time ashore on the island, soaking in the sights and splashing about. Then, the boat will sail to Yanuya island, where you’ll experience traditional Fijian village life. The tour boat will drop you back to the island after a day of fun. Mobile network isn’t guaranteed, good times are.

Walking down the beach, you’ll often come across friendly matches of beach volleyball, rugby and cricket – feel free to jump in. There’s also the treetop spa which excels in traditional Fijian spa massages and treatments. For the culturally inclined, check out the resort’s activities sheet. It has regular ‘classes’ on sulu (that’s a sarong in Fijian) tying demonstration, coconut husking & cracking demos, tasting sessions of fresh green coconuts, basking weaving lessons and even Fijian cooking lessons.

Day 8: Return to the mainland. Your package includes boat and private car transfers, so relax and sort through all the pictures you’ve taken. Fly home safe and return soon!

The Matamanoa Island Resort’s Garden View Resort Rooms are set amongst the landscaped flowering greens. Making extensive use of locally sourced stained hardwood and ‘tapa’ decorations, the rooms are an excellent accommodation choice for couples and explorers. Studio-sized, the rooms feature a huge king-size bed with carved headboard, air-conditioning and ceiling fans, bar fridge and tea/coffee making facilities. The ensuite bathroom comes with complimentary toiletries, plush bathrobes and towels. Outside the room is a patio with outdoor furniture for enjoying sweet-smelling sunsets with a book and a drink in hand. The Resort Rooms are set close to the resort’s lounge, restaurant, bar and the infinity pool.

Does the resort have COVID-19 safety in place?

Yes. Yes, it does and there’s a whole list of precautions and measures installed – all to ensure your Fiji holiday is as safe as humanly possible. First off, all the resort staff around you are 100% vaccinated. Not a single dose or 99.9%, all the people around you are double-dosed with WHO-approved Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines.

What COVID-19 safety precautions are in place at the resort?

The resort practices social distancing protocols. Increased hygiene procedures and protocols have been established for all guest rooms and public areas focussing on high touch-point areas.

Hand sanitizer will be provided in all rooms. During your stay, your room will only be serviced every third day unless requested otherwise. Requests for additional servicing should be advised to the Resort Manager or Operations Manager on arrival. All arrival rooms to undergo sanitized Deep Cleaning focusing on disinfecting high touch areas including handles, control panels, remote controls, switches, toilet, nightstands, telephone, clocks, luggage rack and flooring.

The restaurant and bar will be sanitized between service periods focussing on high touch-point areas. Additionally, public area tables and chairs will facilitate social distancing requirements. All public areas including Reception, Boutique, Lounges will undergo regular sanitisation. Hand sanitizer will be available for guests’ use in all public areas including reception, bar, the restaurant, and bathrooms.

On arrival all guests will receive complimentary snorkelling equipment for use during their stay. All snorkelling equipment will be sanitized before allocation. Plus, activity gear such as kayaks, hobie cats, tennis rackets will be sanitized between uses. Where social distancing is not possible on our boats, passengers must wear face masks.

The staff undergoes regular non-contact temperature checks, and training in all Care Fiji Commitment protocols and procedures.
