Day 1 - Arrive in Toronto

Welcome to Canada. Once you’ve arrived, we’ll transfer you to your hotel where you can settle in.

Day 2 - Toronto

Mingle with your fellow travellers over a welcome breakfast before setting off on a guided sightseeing tour, which includes a visit to Casa Loma, a Gothic Revival castle-style mansion in midtown Toronto. Tonight, a Signature Experience awaits.

Signature Experience – CN Tower Dinner

Take in panoramic views of Toronto's dazzling skyline as you enjoy a memorable dinner at the iconic CN Tower, where sparkling lights and stunning vistas create an unforgettable experience.

Day 3 - Toronto, Niagara Falls

Travel to Niagara-on-the-Lake for a Signature Experience. Afterwards, continue to the breathtaking wonder of Niagara Falls. For an awe-inspiring bird's-eye perspective, perhaps take an optional helicopter flight (additional expense). Then, take an unforgettable cruise to the base of the Falls.

Day 4 - Niagara Falls, Thousand Islands, Ottawa

Today, travel along the scenic Thousand Islands Parkway and stop to cruise through the beautiful Thousand Islands. Straddling the border between Canada and the United States, this breathtaking archipelago is home to over 1800 rugged islands. Glide past opulent waterfront estates, historic castles and forested islands as you cruise along the glistening waters of the St. Lawrence River. Afterwards, journey to Ottawa, the proud national and cultural capital of Canada. Arrive by the late afternoon and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure to explore at your own pace.

Day 5 - Ottawa

Start your day with a guided tour, pausing at Parliament Hill among other must-see attractions. Afterwards, enjoy your preferred Freedom of Choice activity. This evening, a spectacular Signature Experience awaits.

• Gain an insight into the cultural, historic and artistic achievements of Canada’s First Nations people as you explore the First Peoples Hall and tour the Canadian History Hall.

Freedom of Choice – Canadian War Museum Admission

• Learn about the nation’s military history as you explore the fascinating collection of artefacts, artworks, photos and interactive presentations on display.

Freedom of Choice – Guided Bike Tour

• Cycle through the heart of Canada’s capital on a guided bike tour, navigating Ottawa’s many designated bike paths. There are over 600 kilometres of paved trails, seamlessly connecting the city’s parks, museums and other attractions.

Freedom of Choice – Vintage Biplane Experience

• For vintage and thrill enthusiasts, set out on a flight in an open-cockpit biplane. Afterwards, visit the Canada Aviation and Space Museum.

Freedom of Choice – Rideau Canal Cruise

• Embark on a scenic cruise along the Rideau Canal, which was established in 1812. Discover the region’s historic landmarks aboard a brand-new electric vessel, the largest electric passenger vessel in North America.

Signature Experience – Dinner at the ByWard Market

• Savour a special dining experience this evening at the ByWard Market, joining an expert guide on a tour through the shops and restaurants as you learn about the precinct’s history and key sites. Delight in three delicious paired courses from three of the market’s leading eateries.

Day 6 - Ottawa, Montréal

Depart Ottawa and enjoy a Signature Experience at a local sugar shack. Afterwards, continue to Québec City.

• Visit a local sugar shack, where you’ll learn how maple syrup is made and feast on traditional Québécois fare for lunch. These small wooden houses are built in maple forests, where sap is collected and boiled down to produce the sweet syrup we all know and love.

Day 7 - Québec City

Set out on a tour of Québec City before a Signature Experience. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure.

• Relish an authentic First Nations-inspired lunch, then tour a traditional longhouse, offering a window into the history and culture of the region's First Nations peoples.

Day 8 - Québec City, Montréal

Depart Québec City and journey to Montréal, the largest city in the province of Québec. This vibrant metropolis seamlessly blends old-world charm with a modern energy, home to enchanting cobblestone streets in the historic district and the world's most extensive underground pedestrian network. On arrival, a guided city tour takes you to Old Montréal and Mount Royal. Spend the evening at leisure to explore the city or simply relax at your hotel.

Day 9 - Montréal

The day unfolds on your own terms thanks to a range of Freedom of Choice activities on offer. This evening, enjoy an incredible Signature Experience before savouring a farewell dinner with a Québécois flavour.

Signature Experience – AURA Experience at the Notre-Dame Basilica of Montréal

Marvel at the beauty of the AURA Experience, a remarkable multi-media show at the magnificent Notre-Dame Basilica of Montréal. Immerse yourself in the stunning spectacle as unique projections illuminate the picturesque interior of the Gothic cathedral, all accompanied by orchestral music. 

Day 10 - Québec City, Embark Ship

Today, embark on your Canada and New England cruise.

Dock in Québec City, where you'll enjoy another day to explore this historic French-Canadian cultural hub.

Day 12 - Day at Sea

A relaxing day of cruising awaits as you glide past the rocky coastline of the beautiful Gulf of St. Lawrence.

Day 13 - Prince Edward Island

Prince Edward Island may be Canada’s smallest province, but it’s big on history. With time at leisure, perhaps visit the island’s capital of Charlottetown to delve into the region’s past. Alternatively, you may prefer to see the Anne of Green Gables homestead and enjoy time at this well-known literary landmark, set in pretty surrounds (additional expense).

Day 14 - Sydney

Spend the day exploring Sydney and its stunning surrounds on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia. The island's French-influenced name contrasts its strong Celtic heritage. You will discover cheerfully colourful highland villages, the beautiful coastal scenery of the Cabot Trail, as well as the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site, which was once one of North America’s busiest 18th-century seaports.

Day 15 - Halifax

For ocean scenery at its best, it is hard to beat Nova Scotia’s south shore. Arrive in Halifax this morning, with free time to perhaps visit Peggy’s Cove and the German village of Lunenburg. Then, head back to Halifax, where you might like to visit the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site or a museum which commemorates the Titanic.

Day 16 - Portland

Today you’ll experience the wonders of Portland, an historic seaside hub first settled in 1633 which blends its storied history and heritage buildings with modern shops and a cosmopolitan atmosphere. There are many sightseeing options in this diverse destination, from art museum and historic home visits to setting out into the harbour on a ferry or whale-watching boat (additional expense).

Day 17 - Disembark Ship, Depart Boston

After breakfast, disembark your ship in Boston, then transfer to the airport for your onward flight.

When is the best time to travel in Canada?

In our eyes, it’s always a pleasure to travel to Canada. From April to May, snow is visible, and lakes are still frozen from winter. Bears stumble awake, and national parks are busy with wildlife. Summer is from June to August, and it’s the most popular season for outdoor activities and wildlife viewing. In the autumn, from September to November, temperatures cool and the leaves change. In winter, from December through to early March, the landscape is transformed into a breathtaking winter wonderland.

Will I see wildlife?

Most of our tours take place between April and September when wildlife is at its most abundant and active. All our holidays visit national parks for the best chance to see wildlife, including bears, wolves and bald eagles. On an Inside Passage cruise, you will likely see marine and land mammals from aboard your ship. For a closer look, however, we recommend you book shore excursions that include visits to wilderness parks.

What to pack for my cruise?

Bring a variety of clothing to suit the time of year in which you’re travelling. Most guests dress casually during the day, but we recommend you pack a variety of comfortable light to medium weight clothes plus rainwear. If you are travelling in winter, you will need to bring clothes that can be layered, and a waterproof outer layer, as temperatures can drop to lows of between -15 and -40 degrees Celsius. Ensure you have appropriate footwear.

Is dining included on the Holland America Line?

On Holland America Line sailings, breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included each day.

What currency is used on board?

US dollars is the only currency accepted. The ships maintain a ‘cashless society’ – provide your credit card upon boarding, sign for your purchases and settle your account at the end of your cruise. Note that personal cheques, prepaid travel cards and debit cards are not accepted on board.
