GROOVY, BABY! Revisit the 1970s on Fraser Island with the Starts at 60 Community

Day 1 - Friday 14 May 2021:

Today as we all arrive at River Heads, we will board the passenger ferry for a 3:30pm departure and head for Fraser Island. (For more information on getting to River Heads see all option below in the FAQs).

After checking into your accommodation, take the afternoon to relax and get acquainted with the resort's amazing facilities before the Travel at 60 Seventies Fest kicks off!

Tonight you'll meet your fellow groupies at our BBQ dinner before gearing up for a night strolling down memory lane at our 'Game Show Live' – '70s trivia event. There'll be a prize for the top team, so come ready with your knowledge of all thing 1970s!

Day 2 - Saturday 15 May 2021:

Rise and shine, groovers, it's time to get exploring! After a scrumptious breakfast, we'll head off for a day of discovery. On this adventure, you'll see all of the iconic Fraser Island sights, visit the top natural attractions (all from the air-conditioned comfort of our custom-designed, 4WD coaches) and cool off in idyllic waterholes. This tour includes lunch and refreshments, so all you need to pack is your sunscreen, swimwear, camera and a sense of adventure! 

Then we return to the resort for a relaxing afternoon before this evening's main event! Tonight is the night to don your best '70s glam for the Travel at 60 Disco! Enjoy dinner and a night of dancing and singing along to your favourite tunes from one of the greatest music decades. We'll have a prize for the best-dressed guests, so be sure to come dressed to impress!

Day 3 - Sunday 16 May 2021:

After two evenings spent reliving the '70s, we figured you might need a day to recover!

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the resort and spend the rest of your day at leisure. Soak up some Queensland sun at one of the resort's four swimming pools. Or if getting out and about is more your thing, why not join a ranger-guided walk?

After your day of relaxation, we'll come together this afternoon for one last drink as the sun sets on a weekend to remember!

Day 4 - Monday 17 May 2021:

This morning we pack away our flares and get our bags ready to be transported down to the ferry terminal.

Enjoy breakfast at the Sand & Wood Restaurant before you depart on this morning's ferry to the mainland at 7:50am. On arrival at River Heads, you'll meet your connecting transport home.

Self-drive package with parking at River Heads:
If you are going to drive to River Heads, we have included 3 x nights secured car parking (uncovered) in the self-drive package. Below are further directions by road:

From Brisbane - The journey is approximately 4-4.5 hours drive north of Brisbane's CBD. Join the Bruce Highway north of Brisbane. Stay on the highway through Gympie, then take the Maryborough exit onto the Maryborough-Hervey Bay Road.

From Maryborough - follow the Maryborough-Hervey Bay Road north toward Hervey Bay (16.8 km). At the large round-about, take the Booral Road exit and travel for approximately 12 km. Then turn right into River Heads Road and travel a further 9.6km to arrive at Kingfisher Bay's Mainland Reception, located at River Heads Shopping Village (on your right hand side). River Heads Road is locally named Ariadne Street.

From Bundaberg - The journey is approximately 1.5 hours drive south. Follow the Bruce Highway south, then turn off at Torbanlea and follow the signs to Hervey Bay (21km). Turn left onto the Maryborough-Hervey Bay Road, then travel 0.7km and turn right on to Booral Road. Travel for approximately 12 km, then turn right into River Heads Road and travel 9.6km to arrive at Kingfisher Bay's Mainland Reception located at River Heads Shopping Village (on your right hand side). River Heads Road is locally named Ariadne Street.

Tilt Train from Brisbane package:
From Brisbane, board the Tilt Train for a comfortable 4-hour journey to Maryborough West Station. Enjoy panoramic views of the passing countryside along the way. On arrival at Maryborough West station, you will be transferred by coach to River Heads.

Tilt Train from Rockhampton package:
From Rockhampton, board the Tilt Train for a comfortable 4-hour journey to Maryborough West Station. Enjoy panoramic views of the passing countryside along the way. On arrival at Maryborough West station, you will be transferred by coach to River Heads.

Are you a Queensland Pensioner?
Queensland Pension Concession Card holders are eligible to receive four Queensland Pension rail travel entitlements each calendar year.

Return coach transfers from Brisbane package:
Travel at 60 will run a private coach from Brisbane's Roma Street Station for travellers who don't wish to drive or catch the train. The coach will depart on Friday at 8:30am to meet the 3:30pm ferry from River Heads to Fraser Island. Coming home, you'll return to Brisbane at approximately 2:30pm on Monday.

Flying to Hervey Bay:
For anyone making the journey from other states, flights arrive into Hervey Bay daily. QantasLink operates daily services from Brisbane to Hervey Bay/Fraser Coast airport. Virgin Australia flies daily from Sydney to Hervey Bay/Fraser Coast Airport.

How do I get to the ferry from Hervey Bay Airport? Return transfers from Hervey Bay Airport to River Heads ferry terminal are $36.25 per person.

Ferry Times:
Everyone will be automatically booked on the below ferry times:

• Friday 14 May 2021 - The ferry will depart River Heads at 3:30pm
• Monday 17 May 2021 - The ferry will depart Fraser Island at 7:50am

I am self driving and would like to take a later ferry back to Hervey bay on the last day? You can travel on any of the below alternative ferry times, just advise your travel consultant at the time of booking. Any passengers catching the Tit Trains or the Brisbane coach transfers are unable to alter the Ferry Times and will need to travel as per the above times.

• Depart River Heads at 06:45am; 09:00am; 1:00pm
• Depart Kingfisher Bay Resort at 10:30am; 2:30pm; 5:00pm
