D​ay 2 - Marla & Alice Springs

After your first night of fine dining and relaxed comfort aboard The Ghan, wake to a spectacular outback sunrise at Marla, a remote outpost 160 kilometres from the Northern Territory border and gateway to the legendary Oodnadatta Track. With red dirt beneath your feet and a bonfire casting warmth into the cool morning air, pause to take in the stillness of this extraordinary place. Back on board, enjoy a leisurely brunch as the desert landscape unfolds on the journey north to Alice Springs. Here, a variety of Off Train Experiences awaits. Choose an off-road bike adventure across ochre-coloured earth, explore the town’s key landmarks on the A Town Called Alice tour, or embrace a cultural experience at Standley Chasm. Nature lovers can meet the wildlife at the Desert Park or marvel at the striking beauty of Simpsons Gap. 2027: 4 Day / 3 Night Itinerary

Day 1 - Adelaide

Your journey on The Ghan begins in Adelaide this afternoon, as you step aboard and settle into the rhythm of life on the rails. Watch the countryside roll past your window as the train makes its way north, a hint of the adventure to come. By early evening, you’ll arrive at Long Plains, where you’ll step off the train and transfer to a celebrated South Australian wine region. Here, a special dinner experience awaits, showcasing the region’s exceptional produce and fine wines. As the sun sets over the vineyards, raise a glass to the days of discovery ahead. After dinner, return to the train and retire for the night as The Ghan continues its journey towards north. (D) 

Day 2 - Port Augusta & Flinders Ranges

Wake to the changing landscapes of South Australia as The Ghan arrives into Port Augusta, South Australia’s gateway to the outback. After breakfast, step off the train and prepare for a full day discovering one of the nation’s most remarkable regions: the Flinders Ranges. Gold Single Cabin - A compact yet comfortable space designed for both day and night use. At night, the seat converts into a single bed, with shared bathroom facilities located at the end of the carriage.

Gold Twin Cabin - The most popular choice, offering a comfortable and private space for two guests. At night, the three-seater lounge converts into upper and lower sleeping berths. A compact ensuite with shower, toilet and vanity ensures convenience.

Gold Premium Twin Cabin - Premium offers a step up in comfort with additional cabin space and larger ensuite. By day, enjoy a comfortable lounge - at night, the lounge converts into twin beds.

Gold Suite - Features enhanced space and comfort with a three-quarter double bed, an additional upper berth, and a small lounge area. Complete with a private ensuite, TV, and mini-bar, it provides a more spacious and upgraded experience.

Platinum Cabin - Spacious and elegantly appointed with panoramic windows on both sides of the train. Aurora Suite - Introducing a new level of luxury in rail travel, this suite is double the size of a Platinum cabin. Standard of dress onboard the train:

It is your holiday and we want you to be comfortable, so smart casual attire is recommended. Warm clothes are recommended for evenings onboard the train, as the air-conditioning can be cool. It is recommended that guests pack a hat, sunscreen and comfortable walking shoes for off-train touring. Sensible shoes are advisable for walking between carriages. 

Cabins onboard the train:

Single Gold Cabins - compact sleeper cabin featuring a bed that converts to a seat by day, private vanity, with shared shower/toilet facilities located at the end of the carriage.

Twin Gold Cabins - comfortable sleeper cabin featuring upper and lower sleeping berths that convert to a three-seater lounge by day. Private compact en suite featuring a shower and toilet.

Luggage Allowance:

Guests should bring an overnight bag to their cabin containing everything needed for the journey. Each guest travelling is entitled to checked in luggage, however checked in luggage cannot be accessed during the journey. In Gold Service, guests are allowed 2 bags x 30kg and guests travelling in Platinum Service are allowed 3 bags x 30kg.
