Experience some of the most remote and iconic parts of Australia with this three day Outback Adventure, departing from and returning to the Gold Coast.
Travelling in a private Cessna Caravan plane, you’ll enjoy a birds eye view of the incredible colours and landscapes of the Australian Outback - without the days of travel usually required to reach these incredible destinations.
Fly west over 2,000km into the real Outback dropping into Charleville, Birdsville, William Creek, Innamincka, Cunnamulla and overfly Big Red, the Goyder Lagoon and Lake Eyre. These iconic Australian towns give guests a true taste of the Australian outback.
Day 1 - Gold Coast → Charleville → Birdsville
Checking into the Seair hangar at 6:15am, an early briefing and departure sees the sun rising over the Gold Coast as you head west for Charleville. This central Queensland town is home to a Royal Flying Doctor Service base, and you’ll have a chance to visit it after landing at around 10:00am.
After refuelling, continue into the Outback, arriving at the Birdsville Hotel around 1:00pm. Enjoy lunch at the Birdsville Hotel before exploring this iconic Australian town.
Regrouping at 4:30pm, climb aboard the air conditioned 4WD tour vehicle and head west into the Simpson Desert to enjoy drinks on Big Red, the first major sand dune as you enter the desert. After sunset, return to the Birdsville Hotel for dinner and drinks at their heritage listed front bar.
Day 2 - Lake Eyre → William Creek → Innamincka → Dig Tree
Start the day with a cooked breakfast, before departing Birdsville. You’ll get an opportunity to see Big Red and the Simpson Desert from the air. Then, heading south, pick up the Diamantina River at low level and follow this through the Goyder Lagoon towards the tip of Lake Eyre North.
Climbing up high, you’ll get to see all of the 9,500 square km from your vantage point over the lake. Head west to arrive at William Creek at 11:30am, see this unique town before lunch and a cold beer at the only pub in town, the William Creek Hotel. After lunch, fly back toward Lake Eyre South and the infamous ‘Maree Man’ before continuing across Cooper Creek to Innamincka.
Settle into the Innamincka Hotel, before heading out for a cruise along the Cooper Creek. Relax with drinks and canapes while your guide explains the more fascinating aspects of the Cooper Creek. Head back to the hotel for dinner.
Day 3 - Charlotte Plains → Gold Coast
After breakfast, take to the air and head east, returning into Queensland following the Cooper Creek. Conditions permitting, visit historic Dig Tree and learn about the Burke & Wills story before landing in Cunnamulla to refuel. Another short hop sees you landing at Charlotte Plains Station in the late morning.
Met on arrival by Robyn Russell, our host and station manager, spend the day exploring an authentic piece of the Australian outback. This property has been in Robyn’s family for generations, and she shares its rich farming history on guided tours of the station. Visiting the cattle yards, shearing sheds and the station’s hot water bore, you’ll gain an appreciation for station life and the culture that it has developed.
After lunch at the homestead, the tour begins its final sector, heading for the coast. Returning to civilisation in the early evening, wish your fellow travellers farewell as the tour officially concludes.
