Hilton:

Hilton Adelaide is set in the city centre overlooking Victoria Square, close to dining, shops and attractions. Catch a tram from outside the hotel to seaside Glenelg or along North Terrace to the Casino and the River Precinct. The hotel is a short walk from hot spots like the Central Market and Chinatown and approx 2km from Adelaide Botanic Gardens.

Day 1 - Depart Brisbane

After setting off from Brisbane, enjoy lunch onboard and a relaxing afternoon settling into your private cabin, before arriving at the coastal town of Coffs Harbour. As the sun dips beneath the horizon, enjoy a unique beachside dinner where you’ll feast on local produce and fresh seafood matched with fine wines, while the waves lap at the shore nearby. After a few leisurely hours, you’ll reboard the train and set off into the night.

Day 2 - Hunter Valley, Port Stephens or Newcastle

Start the day with a hearty breakfast onboard before setting off for a full day of Off-Train Excursions. Today you get to choose your own adventure with your choice of the Hunter Valley, Newcastle or Port Stephens.

Hunter Valley Wine Region: Meander through the picturesque and historic vineyards of the Hunter Valley, where you can sample wines from both world-renowned brands and boutique cellar doors. Your day will include cellar door experiences, winery tours and a sumptuous lunch.

Port Stephens by Land and Sea: Travel to Nelson Bay for a relaxing cruise spotting dolphins and taking in the beauty of the Bay before lunch at the Marina.  Next stop is the Stockton Bight Sand Dunes where you’ll explore the beach by 4WD van, stopping to hunt for pippies and driving to the top of a sand dune before returning to the train for dinner.

Newcastle Explorer: Take in spectacular coastal views and discover Newcastle’s unique blend of old and new with a guided walking tour, lunch and a historical Fort Scratchley site visit. Finish the day with a visit to Strzelecki Lookout and stroll along the Newcastle Memorial Walk.

In the evening, return to the train to enjoy a regionally-inspired meal prepared onboard before retiring for the night.

Day 3 - Melbourne, Great Ocean Road or The Moorabool Valley & Geelong

After enjoying breakfast onboard, you can choose to discover the bustling city of Melbourne, take a road trip to the Great Ocean Road or a relaxed afternoon in the Moorabool Valley and Geelong Waterfront.

Melbourne Explorer: Take in the breathtaking views of Melbourne from Eureka Skydeck, the highest public observation tower in the Southern Hemisphere followed by lunch at Eureka 89. Then get to know Melbourne city with your choice of a laneway walking tour, a tour of the National Gallery of Victoria or free time to shop and enjoy the city sights. As the day ends, the coach will transport you to the awaiting train at Inverleigh Station stopping along the way for a sumptuous dinner and wine tasting.

Wonders of the Great Ocean Road: After bunch onboard, set off on a road trip by coach through regional Victoria to the Great Ocean Road to see unforgettable highlights such as the Twelve Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge and London Bridge, majestic collections of crumbling pillars rising from the Southern Ocean. On the return journey to Inverleigh Station, enjoy dinner and drinks at a heritage homestead in regional Victoria.

Wine and Waterfront: After brunch onboard, set off to enjoy wine tasting and stunning views at a regional Victorian vineyard before heading to the Geelong Waterfront. Set your own pace by wandering along the foreshore, discovering public art and history such as the Pier, Eastern Beach and Baywalk Bollards or just sit and soak up the sights and sounds of the foreshore. Finish the day with dinner and wine tasting before returning to the train that night.

Once you’re back onboard, head to the lounge car to enjoy a nightcap and chat with friends or simply return to your cabin to unwind before heading to bed.

Note: Travel time to the Great Ocean Road is approximately 2 hours each way. Due to peak tourist season and potential traffic restrictions the stops along the Great Ocean Road may vary from week to week and we are unable to guarantee visits to specific landmarks.

Day 4 - Arrive in Adelaide

As the train journeys through the charming Adelaide Hills, enjoy your last breakfast onboard before arriving into Adelaide and the end of your Great Southern train journey. You will be transferred from the railway station to your hotel where you will spend the next 3 nights.

Upon check in, the rest of the day is at leisure for you to explore Adelaide at your own pace.

Day 5 - Adelaide (Christmas Day)

Merry Christmas! Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before taking the morning to relax. For anyone wishing to attend a religious service today the hotel concierge will be able to advise services available. This afternoon, make you way down to the hotel's restaurant for your group Christmas Lunch Celebration!

Day 6 - Adelaide

This morning after breakfast set off on a day tour of the Adelaide Hills

Day 7 - Depart Adelaide

Enjoy one last breakfast with your fellow travellers before you bid one another farewell for your transfer to the airport.

Brisbane Transfers to Railway Station:
Complimentary coach transfers between Brisbane CBD and the Rail Terminal are provided. All guests will be required to make their own way to Customs House for check-in from 0715. Please note check-in closes at 0830, after which complimentary coach transfers will depart from Customs House for the Rail Terminal.

Willing to share?:
One of the advantages of travelling on a Travel at 60 dedicated group departure is that we have the ability to match solo travellers, so that you they can avoid paying the single supplement. Subject to availability of another traveller of the same gender willing to share.

Standard of dress onboard the train:
It is your holiday and we want you to be comfortable, so smart casual attire is recommended. Warm clothes are recommended for evenings onboard the train, as the air-conditioning can be cool. It is recommended that guests pack a hat, sunscreen and comfortable walking shoes for off-train touring. Sensible shoes are advisable for walking between carriages. 

Cabins onboard the train:
Single Gold Cabins - compact sleeper cabin featuring a bed that converts to a seat by day, private vanity, with shared shower/toilet facilities located at the end of the carriage.

Twin Gold Cabins - comfortable sleeper cabin featuring upper and lower sleeping berths that convert to a three-seater lounge by day. Private compact en suite featuring a shower and toilet.

Luggage Allowance:
Guests should bring an overnight bag to their cabin containing everything needed for the journey
. Each guest travelling is entitled to checked in luggage, however checked in luggage cannot be accessed during the journey. In Gold Service, guests are allowed 2 bags x 30kg and guests travelling in Platinum Service are allowed 3 bags x 30kg.
