Want to escape for a few days? Love to travel with fellow over-60s? Join a group of like-minded travellers for a Tilt Train journey from Brisbane to Bundaberg, located at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef. Sit back, relax and meet your fellow travellers as you take in the scenery of the Glasshouse Mountains, Sunshine Coast hinterland, Nambour and Gympie.

Bundaberg is famous for its rum distillery. Explore the museum before joining a guided tour - ending with the chance to sample any of the top shelf rums from their range. Cheers to that!

Bundaberg has a rich sugar cane history and aviation pioneer, Bert Hinkler was born in the city. You'll have time to explore the city's lush Botanic Gardens, which is home to the Hinkler Hall of Aviation and Fairymead Sugar Museum.

The highlight of this holiday is a trip to Mon Repos to watch the endangered Loggerhead turtles come to shore at night to lay their clutches of eggs (November-January) or watch the eggs hatch and the baby turtles make their way to the ocean (January-March).

Questions

Willing to share:
One of the advantages of travelling on a Travel at 60 dedicated group departure is that we have the ability to match solo travellers, so that you they can avoid paying the single supplement. Subject to availability of another traveller of the same gender willing to share, otherwise the solo traveller price applies.

Mon Repos Turtle Centre:

For some of the evening you will be outside on the beach. A moderate level of fitness is required for the Turtle Encounters tour. Visitors need to be able to:

  • Walk up to 1.6km at night in natural light or with limited light in some sections
  • Stand on uneven surfaces for approximately one hour
  • Traverse sandy surfaces including short steep sandy sections on vegetated dunes, and boardwalk ramps

To ensure you have an enjoyable visit:

  • Wear footwear suitable for walking along a sandy beach
  • Pack rain jackets as shelter is limited and umbrellas are not allowed on the beach
  • Bring a jumper or a wind cheater as it can be cold
  • Bring your own drinking water (a water bottle refill station is provided at the Turtle Centre), snacks and insect repellent
