Board the Tilt Train in Brisbane for your journey up to Bundaberg

Bundaberg has a rich sugar cane history and aviation pioneer, Bert Hinkler was born in the city. You'll have time to explore the city's lush Botanic Gardens, which is home to the Hinkler Hall of Aviation and Fairymead Sugar Museum.

Tuesday - Brisbane - Bundaberg (Tilt Train)

This morning you'll meet your fellow travellers at Brisbane's Roma Street Station before boarding the Tilt Train for your journey to Bundaberg. On arrival in Bundaberg, you'll be transferred to your accommodation for the next three nights.

Tonight join your fellow travellers for a Welcome Dinner so that you can mingle and meet everyone on tour.

Wednesday - Bundaberg Botanic Gardens, Hinkler Hall of Aviation & Turtle Experience

Relax over breakfast, served in your room, before being transferred to Bundaberg's Botanic Gardens. Explore the gardens and perhaps you'd like to enjoy lunch in the garden's café.

The Hinkler Hall of Aviation offers a range of galleries and exhibits celebrating Bert Hinkler's aviation pioneering spirit.

Enjoy an early dinner at the hotel restaurant, before tonight's highlight tour to Mon Repos Turtle Centre for a ranger-guided tour of the beach to watch the mother turtles as they come ashore to lay their clutches of eggs (Nov-Jan) or to watch as the eggs hatch and the baby turtles make their way to the water to start their journey.

Thursday - Bundaberg Rum Distillery & Australian Macadamia

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast, in your room, before heading to the Bundaberg Rum Distillery for a guided tour to learn about the fermenting and distilling process of Queensland's favourite spirit! You'll also have time to explore the Museum.

This afternoon, visit Macadamias Australia a family owned second generation Macadamia farm. Enjoy a macadamia tasting experience and delicious lunch.

This afternoon is free to enjoy time by the pool or a visit to the local shopping district.

Friday - Bundaberg - Brisbane (Tilt Train)

After breakfast (in your room), you will be transferred to Bundaberg's railway station to board the Tilt Train for your journey back to Brisbane.

Say farewell to newfound friends as sadly your holiday comes to an end on arrival in Brisbane.

One of the advantages of travelling on a Travel at 60 dedicated group departure is that we have the ability to match solo travellers, so that you they can avoid paying the single supplement. Subject to availability of another traveller of the same gender willing to share, otherwise the solo traveller price applies.

Mon Repos Turtle Centre:

For some of the evening you will be outside on the beach. A moderate level of fitness is required for the Turtle Encounters tour. Visitors need to be able to:

  • Walk up to 1.6km at night in natural light or with limited light in some sections
  • Stand on uneven surfaces for approximately one hour
  • Traverse sandy surfaces including short steep sandy sections on vegetated dunes, and boardwalk ramps

To ensure you have an enjoyable visit:

  • Wear footwear suitable for walking along a sandy beach
  • Pack rain jackets as shelter is limited and umbrellas are not allowed on the beach
  • Bring a jumper or a wind cheater as it can be cold
  • Bring your own drinking water (a water bottle refill station is provided at the Turtle Centre), snacks and insect repellent
