This great-value getaway (available for travel through to March 2023) is your perfect introduction to Norfolk's history, nature and laid-back atmosphere. Stay at a cosy boutique resort, get to know the island…

Looking to stretch your legs with post-lockdown getaway? Norfolk Island is shaping up to be a fond favourite among Aussie travellers.

For first-time visitors, we’ve included three tours: one delving into the island's turbulent history, another exploring its historic gardens, and an orientation for a great overview of everything the island has to offer.

Day by day

Itinerary

  1. 1

    Day 1

Land at Norfolk and meet your private car transfer to the resort. Check in, relax with a nice shower and enjoy a complimentary islander-style cocktail.

For first timers, we’ve included a helpful half-day orientation tour of Norfolk. The informative tour guide will tell you tidbits about the history of the island, how to get your bearings and so on. You’ll also get a crash course on what kind of tours, experiences, restaurants and pubs are available on your holiday.

This package also includes two additional tours. The Gardener’s Tour takes travellers on an excursion to four of the island’s oldest and most beautiful gardens. Sprawling, dripping with history and multi-hued blooms, each of the four horticultural marvels are a testament to natural beauty and gardening skills. You’ll get a deep dive into the history behind each of the gardens, too.

The second tour is one especially tailored for history buffs. Called the Untold Story, the one-hour tour recounts the superhuman struggle of the original 194 settlers who sailed from Pitcairn Island to Norfolk.

There’s so much to see, do, eat and experience in Norfolk, it is impossible to sample it all in five days - or even several weeks! Norfolk has over 32 kilometres of small beaches lining its coastline, beyond which lap crystal-clear waters of the Pacific. Swimming, snorkelling and kayaking can soak up days on end. There are plenty restaurants and bistros which excel at paddock-to-plate/ farm-to-table fare. First timers, check out the Convict Ruins in Kingston – the latter is an UNESCO-demarcated World Heritage Site to boot. There are also plenty of self-drive adventures to be experienced. For starters, drive up to the summit of Mount Pitt and enjoy the 360° views. You can also walk across to the next summit, which is Mt. Bates and just a short walk up. Driving around is relatively stress-free and with lovely vistas left and right, a pleasure through and through. The island also has a golf course where you can practice your putting game.

And after a day of fun and sun, relax at the resort’s Garden Restaurant & Bar, which has carved its name as one of the best eateries on the island. Boasting of just 50 rooms spread over 11 acres of woodlands and gardens, spending a day lazing around never sounded so good. And you'll be accompanied with daily sunset cocktail and nibbles as a part of your Norfolk holiday package, so you're all set.

  2. 6

    Day 6

Your friendly private car transfer will take you back to the airport. We hope to see you back again very soon!

Common questions about this voyage

About Norfolk Island:

Norfolk Island is a remote isle in the Pacific Ocean, set between Australia, New Caledonia and New Zealand. Beautiful rolling plains, forest-covered hills, long swathes of beaches and a rich history make this destination much sought-after. Its small, close-knit community of locals, plenty of activities, experiences and cultural events keep Norfolk lively at all hours.

As a former penal colony, history buffs would love the years of history preserved in the museums in Kingston. As the same time, there is plenty to shop as Norfolk doesn’t have as many taxes as Australia and New Zealand – so have at it! Wining and dining are excellent here too, from budget outlet to fine dining restaurants with great views of the coast, it’s all there for the choosing. Keep an eye out for daily events – there’s so much to see, do and experience while in Norfolk!

Travel at 60 Social Getaways

Travel further when you're not travelling alone

Our Social Getaways are small-group holidays designed especially for over-60s Australians who want the freedom of a great trip without the work of planning every detail. A Travel at 60 host travels with the group, the operator handles the logistics, and you get to focus on the bit that matters — the people, the places, and the stories you'll bring home.

Open to solo travellers too. Many of our travellers book on their own and find their feet quickly in a friendly group of like-minded Australians. Reduced single-supplement options are available on most departures — ask one of our consultants and we'll talk you through what's offered on this trip.

  • A friendly Travel at 60 host — an Australian face on the ground, looking out for the group from day one.
  • Curated local guides & boutique suppliers — the same operators we'd book for our own families.
  • Real itineraries, not whirlwind tours — comfortable transfers, breathing room, and the “off the beaten track” stops the big bus tours skip.

Want to talk it through? Call 1300 414 198 7 days a week, Queensland time, and one of our consultants will walk you through it.
