Arrive in Auckland
Welcome to Auckland, New Zealand's vibrant waterfront city. Collect your rental car upon arrival and get ready to explore a city framed by sparkling harbours and volcanic hills. Known as the 'City of Sails', Auckland combines natural beauty with cosmopolitan charm. Spend the rest of your day strolling along the Viaduct Harbour, visiting nearby beaches, or dining in one of the city's many acclaimed restaurants.

Auckland to Rotorua via Hobbiton
Depart Auckland and begin your journey south through lush green farmland. A highlight of today's drive is a stop at the Hobbiton Movie Set in Matamata. Step into the magical world of Middle-earth, exploring hobbit holes, the Mill, and the Green Dragon Inn. After this enchanting experience, continue to Rotorua, a geothermal wonderland rich in Māori culture and natural hot springs.

Explore Rotorua - Whaka Geothermal Guided Tour
Today is dedicated to discovering the unique geothermal and cultural wonders of Rotorua. Join a guided tour of Whakarewarewa - The Living Māori Village. Learn about the traditional ways of life, witness bubbling mud pools and steaming vents, and experience a place where Māori heritage and geothermal activity co-exist in harmony. Lake Taupo Cruise to Māori Rock Carvings
Spend your day on the water with a scenic cruise across the pristine waters of Lake Taupo. Your journey will take you to the famous Māori Rock Carvings at Mine Bay - towering, intricate artworks accessible only by boat. As you glide across the lake, soak in panoramic views of distant volcanoes and listen to stories of the carvings' cultural significance. The rest of the day is yours to explore or relax.

Taupo to National Park Village
This morning, set off towards Tongariro National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its dramatic volcanic landscape. As you drive south, the terrain transforms into rugged mountain country. Upon arrival in National Park Village, settle in and admire views of Mount Ruapehu, Mount Ngauruhoe, and Mount Tongariro. If time allows, enjoy a short walk or visit the local visitor centre.

National Park to Waitomo via Glowworm Caves
Depart the mountains this morning and head northwest towards Waitomo. En route, stop at the legendary Waitomo Glowworm Caves. Board a small boat and drift silently through the darkness as thousands of tiny glowworms light up the cavern ceiling like a starry sky. This surreal underground experience is a highlight of any North Island journey. Continue to your accommodation in Waitomo or nearby.

Waitomo to Auckland - Depart New Zealand
