Day by day

Itinerary

  1. 1

    Sliema (Malta)

We’ll meet the group in the picturesque resort town of Sliema and get to know one another over a delicious welcome meal. Welcome to Malta!

  2. 2

Sliema - Mosta and Mdina - Sliema

Explore Malta’s natural and historic highlights, from the lush Buskett Gardens and the peaceful medieval streets of Mdina to a wine tasting at the boutique Meridiana Wine Estate. Finish with a visit to Mosta’s impressive domed church before returning to Sliema.

  3. 3

Sliema - Valletta and Birgu - Sliema

Explore Malta’s WWI history and its connection to the Gallipoli campaign, visiting Pieta War Cemetery and learning about the ANZACs evacuated to Malta. Discover Valletta’s historic landmarks, including St John’s Co-Cathedral, and enjoy a traditional ftira lunch. Continue to the ancient town of Birgu to explore its historic streets, Inquisitor’s Palace and Gardjola Gardens before returning to Sliema.

  4. 4

    Sliema

You’ll carve your own path today, spending the entirety of it at your leisure. You could simply have a lazy day relaxing at the hotel, soaking up the stunning views of Sliema from its rooftop terrace or snoozing on a plush sunbed by the pool. For a little more adventure, consider climbing aboard a harbour cruise and inhaling the salty sea breeze as you glide around the ports of Valletta. The contrast of turquoise water, aquamarine skies and the soft sandy hues of the city’s limestone structures make it a paradise for photographers. This evening, we recommend sauntering down to Sliema’s waterfront where you’ll stumble across a string of charming alfresco restaurants with wonderful vistas and tempting local seafood menus.

  5. 5

Sliema - Qrendi and Cirkewwa - Sannat (Gozo)

Explore Malta’s ancient Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra temples, followed by a boat trip through the stunning Blue Grotto caves. Stop for photos at Popeye Village, the former 1980 film set, before taking a speedboat to Gozo for a relaxing evening.

  6. 6

    Sannat - Victoria - Sannat

Discover Gozo with a local guide, exploring the ancient Ġgantija temples and the historic Old Citadel in Victoria. Enjoy a traditional Maltese lunch before visiting Dreams of Horses Farm to sample homemade cheeses and learn about equestrian therapy. Return to Sannat for a relaxing evening at the hotel.

  7. 7

Sannat - San Lawrenz and Marsalforn - Sannat

Discover Gozo’s natural and cultural highlights, including Fungus Rock and the historic Xwejni Salt Pans. Enjoy a stop at Xwejni Bay before returning to Sannat for a final group dinner featuring traditional Maltese cuisine and a chance to reflect on the week’s adventures.

  8. 8

    Sannat - Sliema (Malta))

After a final breakfast and leisurely morning, we’ll catch the ferry to Sliema, where our tour will end later this afternoon.

Common questions about this voyage

Where do I meet my Tour Leader upon arrival?
Your Tour Leader will usually meet you in the arrival hotel’s reception area at the tour’s listed start time. If you can’t see your Tour Leader, look out for any notices posted in the lobby or ask a member of the hotel staff.
How much luggage can I bring?
Each of our guests may bring one piece of main luggage of a standard size of no more than 158cm (when the length, width and height is added together) and weighing no more than 20kg. You may also bring one small carry-on bag per person.
What clothes should I bring?
We suggest packing for variable weather conditions. If you are travelling through Italy, Spain or Southern France in summer, make sure you pack a hat and sunscreen. We also suggest a pair of good shoes for walking tours.

Travel at 60 Social Getaways

Travel further when you're not travelling alone

Our Social Getaways are small-group holidays designed especially for over-60s Australians who want the freedom of a great trip without the work of planning every detail. A Travel at 60 host travels with the group, the operator handles the logistics, and you get to focus on the bit that matters — the people, the places, and the stories you'll bring home.

Open to solo travellers too. Many of our travellers book on their own and find their feet quickly in a friendly group of like-minded Australians. Reduced single-supplement options are available on most departures — ask one of our consultants and we'll talk you through what's offered on this trip.

  • A friendly Travel at 60 host — an Australian face on the ground, looking out for the group from day one.
  • Curated local guides & boutique suppliers — the same operators we'd book for our own families.
  • Real itineraries, not whirlwind tours — comfortable transfers, breathing room, and the “off the beaten track” stops the big bus tours skip.

Want to talk it through? Call 1300 414 198 7 days a week, Queensland time, and one of our consultants will walk you through it.
