Day by day

Itinerary

  1. 1

    Welcome to Broome

Venture into the otherworldly Kimberley region in Western Australia and enjoy the iconic resort beach town of Broome, famous for its white, sandy beaches. The 22km-long Cable Beach will provide the best seat in the house to view the most amazing sunsets Australia has to offer. Head to Spinifex Brewery for dinner and enjoy their crafting brews infused with the tastes of native land.

  2. 2

    Broome Sightseeing & Free Time

Join a local Aboriginal guide and dive into Broome’s cultural past. On this MAKE TRAVEL MATTER Experience, explore Broome’s historic landmarks and hear stories of how Broome became the centre of the World’s pearling industry, and the harsh working conditions of Broome’s Aboriginal people. Discover the abundance of bush foods and medicine plants that have sustained the first people of the Kimberley for millennia, and sample wild harvest bushfoods. Experience a private didgeridoo performance and get hands on with some traditional Nyul Nyul artefacts. Then, enjoy an afternoon at leisure until it’s time to settle in for Broome’s other attraction: its sunsets. Follow locals to the sand or find a perch in a beachside bar to salute the end of a spectacular day in WA.

  3. 3

    Broome Sightseeing

Among the most multicultural cities in Australia, Broome became a base for fortune-seekers the world over during its ‘pearl rush’. Many of them never left. The pristine waters here grow great oysters, and the resulting pearls are prized by lovers of all things that gleam. Today, explore the renowned Willie Creek Pearl Farm. Located 38 kilometres north of Broome, the Willie Creek Pearl Farm is perfectly situated on the protected tidal estuary of Willie Creek. A natural harbour, the warm azure waters of the creek provide a perfect growing environment for the Pinctada maxima oyster and produces world renowned South Sea Pearls. At the pearl oyster nursery, gain a fascinating insight into the world of cultured pearling and understand the delicate operations involved with seeding and harvesting oysters. Then, cruise the calm azure waters and view live oysters suspended in their natural environment amongst the spectacular native flora and fauna. Continue to a Pearling Masterclass, that includes an exciting live pearl harvest presentation.

  4. 4

    Broome - Kununurra

This morning, enjoy some free time to stroll along the magnificent Cable Beach or to explore Chinatown with its colourful streets and cultural offerings. Then fly to Kununurra, the gateway town to the East Kimberley. The town, famous for its wildlife-rich waterways and rugged red landscape, is a perfect backdrop to explore the region.

  5. 5

    Kununurra

Marvel at the dramatic World Heritage-listed Purnululu National Park, home to the Bungle Bungles, during a scenic flight over the breathtaking range. Prepare to be captivated by the awe-inspiring sight of the Bungle Bungle Range’s striking orange and black-striped domes. During the flight, also glimpse Lake Argyle, the Argyle Diamond Mine, Carr Boyd Ranges, Osmand Ranges, Ord River and Bow River. Then, embark on a leisurely cruise along Lake Argyle. Discover the unique flora and fauna of this amazing outback wilderness, as you watch the sun setting behind the Carr Boyd Ranges.

  6. 6

    Kununurra Sightseeing

This morning, explore Kununurra in company of a local Aboriginal guide. At the Diversion Dam, hear about the Ord River Irrigation scheme, as well as the Barramundi and Cockatoo Dreamtime Story. Wander through Mirima National Park, known as a ‘mini Bungles’, while learning about bush foods and medicines. Continue to the iconic Ivanhoe Crossing, a causeway built over the mighty Ord River that remains in flow year-round. Then, relax in the afternoon, before celebrating the end of the tour with a special gourmet dinner. Nestled amongst iconic boab trees and rugged red cliff faces, enjoy an outback culinary experience, using a combination of locally sourced produce and bush tucker flavours.
