Renowned for its award-winning wineries and celebrated food and wine culture, Mudgee is home to some of the state’s finest Chardonnay. Visit Lowe Family Wine Co. for a guided tasting of organic and biodynamic wines whilst enjoying lunch, featuring homegrown and local produce.

  2. 2

    Mudgee - Nyngan - Cobar

Travel west through the changing landscapes of regional New South Wales, stopping in Nyngan to uncover stories of pioneering life at the museum housed within the town's historic railway station. Continue to the outback town of Cobar, where a rich mining legacy is revealed at the Cobar Museum, before sweeping views across the vast Open Cut Mine await from Fort Bourke Hill Lookout.

  3. 3

Cobar - White Cliffs - Broken Hill

Travel to White Cliffs, Australia's oldest commercial opal field and one of the only places in the world where white opal is found. Descend into a working opal mine among the historic diggings to learn about the region's mining heritage and see how miners continue the search for these prized gemstones. Later, journey across the vast landscapes of far western New South Wales to Broken Hill, a city renowned for its rich mining history and vibrant arts scene.

  4. 4

    Broken Hill

Explore Broken Hill on a guided walking tour, discovering its grand Victorian and Art Deco architecture while learning how this remote mining settlement evolved into a nationally recognised centre for heritage, art and outback culture. Visit the Broken Hill City Art Gallery, the oldest regional art gallery in New South Wales, before enjoying free time to explore the city at your own pace. Later, head to The Living Desert and Sculptures, where 12 sandstone artworks overlook the Barrier Ranges, providing a spectacular setting to experience the changing colours of the outback at sunset, before dinner at the historic Palace Hotel, famous for its role in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

  5. 5

    Broken Hill (Silverton)

This morning, visit the historic outback town of Silverton, once a thriving silver mining settlement and now one of the region’s most iconic destinations. Wander the heritage streets, soak up the character of this fascinating "ghost town" and explore the Silverton Gaol & Historical Museum, home to colonial artefacts, early mining equipment and stories from the outback’s pioneering past. Return to Broken Hill for an afternoon at leisure, or choose optional experiences to the Royal Flying Doctor Outback Heritage Experience, Pro Hart Gallery or Outback Astronomy.

  6. 6

    Broken Hill - Mungo

Depart Broken Hill and journey towards the Menindee Lakes, a remarkable desert oasis renowned for its abundant birdlife. Continue to Mungo Lodge on the edge of Mungo National Park, gateway to the ancient landscapes of the World Heritage listed Willandra Lakes Region, where millennia of history are etched into the land.

  7. 7

    Mungo

Explore the extraordinary landscapes of Mungo National Park, where ancient lakebeds, lunar-like scenery and the iconic Walls of China create one of Australia's most remarkable natural and cultural landscapes. Explore the Mungo Visitor Centre before joining a local Aboriginal guide for an immersive experience on the Walls of China, a place of profound cultural significance. As you walk among the sculpted formations, gain a deeper understanding of more than 40,000 years of Aboriginal history and the discoveries of Mungo Man and Mungo Lady, whose remains provided some of the earliest evidence of human occupation in Australia.

  8. 8

    Mungo - Griffith

Depart Mungo and journey through the heart of the Riverina to Shear Outback, where the stories and traditions of Australia's pastoral heritage come to life. Travel at 60 Social Getaways

Travel further when you're not travelling alone

Our Social Getaways are small-group holidays designed especially for over-60s Australians who want the freedom of a great trip without the work of planning every detail. A Travel at 60 host travels with the group, the operator handles the logistics, and you get to focus on the bit that matters — the people, the places, and the stories you'll bring home.

Open to solo travellers too. Many of our travellers book on their own and find their feet quickly in a friendly group of like-minded Australians. Reduced single-supplement options are available on most departures — ask one of our consultants and we'll talk you through what's offered on this trip.

  • A friendly Travel at 60 host — an Australian face on the ground, looking out for the group from day one.
  • Curated local guides & boutique suppliers — the same operators we'd book for our own families.
  • Real itineraries, not whirlwind tours — comfortable transfers, breathing room, and the “off the beaten track” stops the big bus tours skip.

Want to talk it through? Call 1300 414 198 7 days a week, Queensland time, and one of our consultants will walk you through it.
