Itinerary

  1. 1

    Welcome to Launceston

Start your journey through northern Tasmania and Flinders Island in the lush Tamar Valley, beginning with a visit to “FORK it FARM.” This sustainable farm’s commitment to ethical animal husbandry defines its small-batch products. Amid picturesque rural scenery, your host will share insights into farm life while you savour a charcuterie platter featuring house-cured meats, paired with local Clover Hill wines. Later, wander the charming streets of Launceston, exploring its rich history and breathtaking Cataract Gorge. This evening, enjoy free time to dine at one of the city’s many exceptional restaurants.

  2. 2

Launceston - Flinders Island - Bicheno

After an early morning transfer to Launceston Airport, board a private chartered flight to Flinders Island. Your time on this unique island, part of the Furneaux group, includes a tour of Settlement Point and Wybalenna historic site with a knowledgeable local guide. Following morning tea at Allports Beach, you’ll visit the Furneaux Museum, then the island’s small main settlement, Whitemark, before a stop at Walkers Lookout for the spectacular 360-degree view of the island and Bass Strait. Lunch is served with a menu promoting the finest island produce, including the famed local seafood and a wine-tasting with the passionate owner of the unique Unavale Vineyard. After lunch, you’ll travel to Trousers Point in the Strzelecki National Park. Fly from Flinders Island down the east coast, passing over the stunning Bay of Fires and scenic Wineglass Bay before landing at Friendly Beaches. Continue to the quaint fishing village of Bicheno, your home for the night.

  3. 3

Freycinet National Park - St. Helens

This morning explore Freycinet National Park your way! You may choose an optional experience to cruise Great Oyster Bay by taking the Aqua Express to Hazards Beach, followed by an easy, scenic 2km walk to stunning Wineglass Bay. Alternatively, take a 90-minute round-trip hike up to its breathtaking Wineglass Bay lookout. Prefer a more relaxed morning? Join a guided walk to Cape Tourville’s lookout and lighthouse, then visit the charming hamlet of Coles Bay. After lunch, meet a Tasmanian Devil at East Coast Natureworld before heading north through quaint fishing villages to the spectacular Bay of Fires, where orange-hued boulders contrast with crystal-clear waters. Stop by the serene “Big Lagoon,” then continue to “The Gulch” and the peaceful sandy shores of Binalong Bay. This evening, unwind at your waterfront hotel, soaking in the tranquil coastal atmosphere at your leisure.

  4. 4

    St. Helens - Devonport

Today, heading west you’ll step back in time at the UNESCO World Heritage listed Brickendon Estate, a MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience, with a unique guided convict farm village tour provided by a member of the Archer family, the original owners of the estate. Join them for tea and steaming hot scones home baked in their kitchen. Next stop is Deloraine, the capital of the Meander Valley, known for its vibrant arts scene, rich history, and stunning natural surroundings. Working up a thirst, it’s time to savour some fine, local wines at picturesque Eastford Creek Winery before a short drive to the seaside city of Devonport for a two-night stay.

  5. 5

    Devonport and Surrounds

Embark on a nostalgic morning aboard a heritage train, journeying along the Don River, before exploring vintage locomotives and Tasmanian railway history at the charming train museum. Then, visit Tasmanian Pickled Onions to discover the secrets behind these delicious salty treats. Lunch is at Mrs Jones Restaurant Bar Lounge in Devonport, expect lofty views of the waves crashing onto the beach below and an open-plan kitchen to observe the chefs at work. The afternoon is yours to explore at your own pace. Take in the breathtaking views from Mersey Bluff Lighthouse, admire Aboriginal rock carvings etched into diabase stone, or delve into maritime history on an optional experience at the Bass Strait Maritime Museum. If art is more your style, visit the Devonport Regional Gallery for a glimpse of local creativity. However you choose to spend your time, this region’s stunning landscapes and rich heritage promise a memorable experience.

  6. 6

    Devonport - Farewell from Launceston

Travel at 60 Social Getaways

Travel further when you're not travelling alone

Our Social Getaways are small-group holidays designed especially for over-60s Australians who want the freedom of a great trip without the work of planning every detail. A Travel at 60 host travels with the group, the operator handles the logistics, and you get to focus on the bit that matters — the people, the places, and the stories you'll bring home.

Open to solo travellers too. Many of our travellers book on their own and find their feet quickly in a friendly group of like-minded Australians. Reduced single-supplement options are available on most departures — ask one of our consultants and we'll talk you through what's offered on this trip.

  • A friendly Travel at 60 host — an Australian face on the ground, looking out for the group from day one.
  • Curated local guides & boutique suppliers — the same operators we'd book for our own families.
  • Real itineraries, not whirlwind tours — comfortable transfers, breathing room, and the “off the beaten track” stops the big bus tours skip.

Want to talk it through? Call 1300 414 198 7 days a week, Queensland time, and one of our consultants will walk you through it.
