Day by day

Itinerary

  1. 1

    Welcome to Alice Springs

Explore the vibrant culture and rich history of Alice Springs with a tailored itinerary that promises unforgettable experiences. Begin by meeting your insightful Journey Director, who will provide a unique perspective on life in this remote town. Explore the history of the region at the iconic Overland Telegraph Station, then delve into the world of indigenous culture with an exclusive experience led by Rayleen Brown. Rayleen will share her knowledge of Aboriginal bush tucker, accompanied by a tantalizing tasting of native-flavoured foods. Join your fellow travellers for a Welcome Reception at Tali Restaurant, where you will dine on local cuisine and reflect on the day's discoveries.

  2. 2

    Alice Springs – Kings Canyon

Begin your adventure from Alice Springs, heading towards the majestic Kings Canyon. Along the way, stop at a charming roadhouse at Erldunda, known as the "Centre of the Centre," where the Stuart and Lasseter Highways meet. Continue your journey to Kings Canyon Resort, nestled in the heart of Watarrka National Park. This resort offers modern amenities, including a pool, restaurant, and comfortable deluxe lodge rooms. As night falls, indulge in the "Under a Desert Moon" dinner, a unique five-course dining experience under the stars, featuring locally sourced produce and fine Australian wines. This unforgettable evening is the perfect end to a day of exploration and discovery in the Red Centre.

  3. 3

    Kings Canyon – Uluru

Gaze across the deep chasm at the edge of Kings Canyon as you embark on the spellbinding 6km sunrise Rim Walk, past the sandstone domes of the 'Lost City' and down the stairs to the lush 'Garden of Eden'. Or you can opt for a gentler stroll along the canyon creek bed, treading in the footsteps of the Luritja people who once found sanctuary amidst the Itara trees at the canyon's base. Then head off towards Uluru, visiting the local Wanmarra Community to learn about the Luritja and Pertame people's spiritual connection to the land at the Karrke Aboriginal Cultural Experience. Discover bush food and medicine used for spirituality and healing. Now you'll journey across desert landscapes to Curtin Springs Station, a vast farming property, for lunch. Feel the stirring of something bigger than you as you arrive at Australia's spiritual heart, Uluru. Uncover the foundations of Anangu culture and the important creation stories of Uluru, as you spend time wandering through the Cultural Centre before returning to the resort. This evening's dinner is at Ilkari Restaurant.

  4. 4

    Uluru & Kata Tjuta

You may choose to sleep in or better still, start your day with the breathtaking Sunrise Field of Light by Artist Bruce Munro, an Optional Experience*. Then, venture to Kata Tjuta for a morning of exploration and awe-inspiring landscapes as you wander through Walpa Gorge. Enjoy some free time for lunch before embarking on a tour at the base of Uluru, delving into the rich cultural significance of this sacred site. Cap off your day with sunset drinks, soaking in the vibrant colours of the Outback and the changing hues of Uluru as the sun sets. The evening is yours to unwind and enjoy at leisure. Ask us about pre-booking our Optional Experience* exclusive Uluru Barbecue Dinner for tonight.

  5. 5

    Uluru to Alice Springs

Travel through the vast Australian Outback, passing desert landscape, spotting camels, cattle and Atila (Mt. Conner), before turning the corner at Erldunda. Pause for a break at Stuart Wells, an authentic Outback roadhouse. Before arriving at Alice Springs, you'll divert to the West MacDonnell Ranges to explore the rugged beauty of spectacular Simpsons Gap. Upon arrival at your Alice Springs hotel, relax before a celebratory dinner.

  6. 6

    Farewell from Alice Springs

Relax this morning as your journey comes to an end. You might choose to take a hot air balloon ride (own expense) to experience the scenic landscapes of the outback before your journey comes to an end.

Travel at 60 Social Getaways

Travel further when you're not travelling alone

Our Social Getaways are small-group holidays designed especially for over-60s Australians who want the freedom of a great trip without the work of planning every detail. A Travel at 60 host travels with the group, the operator handles the logistics, and you get to focus on the bit that matters — the people, the places, and the stories you'll bring home.

Open to solo travellers too. Many of our travellers book on their own and find their feet quickly in a friendly group of like-minded Australians. Reduced single-supplement options are available on most departures — ask one of our consultants and we'll talk you through what's offered on this trip.

  • A friendly Travel at 60 host — an Australian face on the ground, looking out for the group from day one.
  • Curated local guides & boutique suppliers — the same operators we'd book for our own families.
  • Real itineraries, not whirlwind tours — comfortable transfers, breathing room, and the “off the beaten track” stops the big bus tours skip.

Want to talk it through? Call 1300 414 198 7 days a week, Queensland time, and one of our consultants will walk you through it.
