    Clare Valley – Port Augusta

This morning, we explore the secluded Clare Valley beginning with a tour of Bungaree Station, a historic complex dating back to 1841. Bungaree was once an extensive sheep station that carried over 100,000 Merino sheep, and today is still run by descendants of the original founders.

Later this morning we’ll visit a renowned Clare Valley winery for lunch and wine tastings. We then continue our journey north, arriving in Port Augusta later this afternoon. We spend the night at the Standpipe Golf Motor Inn.

    Whyalla – Port Lincoln

This morning we travel down the eastern side of the Eyre Peninsula. Our first stop is Whyalla, where we’ll visit the excellent Whyalla Maritime Museum. We continue heading south through Cowell and Tumby Bay before arriving at the seaside town of Port Lincoln late afternoon. Exploring Port Lincoln

This morning we journey to the foot of the Eyre Peninsula and travel along the Whalers Way, a 14km long series of unsealed tracks which traverse through private property. This fully guided interpretive tour takes in the spectacular rugged coastal scenery of the area, with many points of interest and stunning views over the Southern Ocean.

After lunch we join the two-hour Seafood Bay Cruise for some sightseeing across the beautiful waters of Boston Bay and learn about the Tuna and Aquaculture Industries with expert local commentary. The tour includes fresh seafood tastings of tuna, prawns and mussels and the history behind the fishing/aquaculture industries presented by the experienced, local guides.

We arrive back at our hotel later this afternoon for our last night in Australia’s Seafood Capital.

  5. 5

Interpretive Marina and Seafood Lovers tour

Port Lincoln is a town of approximately 12,000 people and was originally considered a site for the state’s capital. The township is located on the banks of beautiful Boston Bay which is three and a half times the size of Sydney Harbour. The town is the base for Australia’s largest tuna fleet and tuna farming industry. Tuna fishing has been extremely lucrative in recent years and has created some very wealthy people. In fact, there are more millionaires per capita in Port Lincoln than anywhere else in Australia!

This morning we’ll enjoy an interpretive tour around the Port Lincoln Marina with a local guide. Then, take a behind the scenes look at the fishing industry with a Seafood Lovers tour at the Fresh Fish Place. After a gourmet seafood lunch (alternative meals available) the rest of the afternoon can be spent at your leisure. Enjoy some time in the town centre or visit some of the local galleries.

  6. 6

    Streaky Bay – Ceduna

This morning we depart Port Lincoln and make our way to Coffin Bay for a tour and tastings at Coffin Bay Oysters. We then travel further up the west coast of the Eyre Peninsula, visiting Murphy's Hay Stacks and Streaky Bay before arriving in Ceduna. Home to around 4,000 people, Ceduna is the last major town before you cross the Nullarbor from east to west. We spend the next two nights at the Ceduna Foreshore Hotel.

Stay: Ceduna Foreshore HotelMeals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner
  7. 7

Bunda Cliffs and Head of Bight

This morning we have an early breakfast and depart Ceduna for the Head of Bight. Every year thousands of people visit the Head of Bight area for breathtaking views of migrating southern right whales. This area is considered one of the best viewing areas in the world with up to 100 whales congregating in the seas adjacent to the Bunda Cliffs at any one time. A large viewing platform offers people safety from the cliffs but also fantastic views.

This afternoon we visit an interpretive centre operated by the Conservation and Land Management Department. Then, head off on an included Scenic Flight over the spectacular coastline, keeping an eye out for migrating whales. Our aircraft for the day is a Cessna Grand Caravan, with high wing, air-conditioning and turbine reliability. The scenic flight will take us all the way back to Ceduna, saving a long drive back from Head of Bight! Tonight, we enjoy our final evening together at the Foreshore Hotel.

Please note: Guests will be divided into two groups for the scenic flight. One group will fly to Head of Bight and return by coach, while the other will travel by coach and return by air. Flight weight restrictions apply.

    Ceduna – Adelaide

This morning, we say farewell to the Eyre Peninsula and head to the local airport to board our flight with Pel-Air back to Adelaide.

Travel at 60 Social Getaways

Travel further when you're not travelling alone

Our Social Getaways are small-group holidays designed especially for over-60s Australians who want the freedom of a great trip without the work of planning every detail. A Travel at 60 host travels with the group, the operator handles the logistics, and you get to focus on the bit that matters — the people, the places, and the stories you'll bring home.

Open to solo travellers too. Many of our travellers book on their own and find their feet quickly in a friendly group of like-minded Australians. Reduced single-supplement options are available on most departures — ask one of our consultants and we'll talk you through what's offered on this trip.

  • A friendly Travel at 60 host — an Australian face on the ground, looking out for the group from day one.
  • Curated local guides & boutique suppliers — the same operators we'd book for our own families.
  • Real itineraries, not whirlwind tours — comfortable transfers, breathing room, and the “off the beaten track” stops the big bus tours skip.

Want to talk it through? Call 1300 414 198 7 days a week, Queensland time, and one of our consultants will walk you through it.
