Day by day

Itinerary

  1. 1

    Arrive Athens

Athens doesn’t just bring the history, it practically invented the good bits. Once the centre of the ancient world, today it’s your turn to dive in. Arrive at your hotel, then get out and explore the Greek capital your way. Around every corner, the ‘Cradle of Western Civilisation’ shows off with ancient temples, buzzing streets and ruins that have seen a few things. Go chasing big stories, bold views and those “how is this still standing?” moments before meeting your Travel Director and fellow travellers later on.

  2. 2

    Athens Sightseeing – Nafplio

Climb to the Acropolis with your Local Guide and stand before the Parthenon, Athens’ skyline-stealing superstar. See the Panathenaic Stadium, Temple of Zeus and Hadrian’s Arch before stopping at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier for the Evzone guards. Then pause at Vryssaki Art Cafe, a creative little hideaway serving coffee, sweet treats and a view worth lingering over. Later, journey to Nafplio via the Corinth Canal, arriving for a free evening. Add a Choice Experience to view Palamidi Castle, Bourtzi Fortress and the Sleeping Lion statue before dinner at a family-run local restaurant.

  3. 3

    Nafplio - Delphi

Start with ancient Mycenae, where your Local Guide unpacks a world of royal tombs, mighty ruins and Bronze Age drama that did not come to play. Then swap warrior kings for winged workers at Axion Esti, a family-run organic beekeeping facility in Stemnitsa. This MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience is sweet, hands-on and properly local. Meet Sophia and Anthony, zip into beekeeper gear, get close to the hives, nose around the museum and taste honey straight from the source while learning why these tiny pollinators are big-time ecosystem heroes. After all that buzz, grab lunch in Mycenae your way before the road calls again. This afternoon, continue to Delphi and settle in for a free evening in this storied mountain town.

  4. 4

    Delphi – Kalambaka

Delphi gets straight to the good stuff today. Walk the Sacred Way to the Temple of Apollo, the same route Alexander the Great once took when he wanted the Oracle to tell him he’d conquer the world. No pressure, then. With your Local Guide, get the stories behind the prophecies, big personalities and Pythian Games, where sport and the arts shared the stage. Add a Choice Experience and settle in for a hosted lunch at a local restaurant in Delphi. Good food, local flavour and no ancient riddles required. The views keep coming on the drive to Thermopylae, where King Leonidas and his Spartans made their famous stand, before you arrive in Kalambaka for dinner at your hotel.

  5. 5

    Kalambaka – Meteora – Athens

Meteora doesn’t do ordinary. This morning, join a Local Guide to visit one of its sky-high monasteries, perched on towering rock pillars above Kalambaka and built by monks in the 14th century. The views are big, the setting is wild and the story behind this place is just as impressive. Later, return to Athens where the rest of the day is yours to spend your way. This evening, add a Choice Experience and gather with your new friends for a lively taverna night with traditional Greek food, drinks and dancing.

  6. 6

    Athens – Mykonos

Swap city buzz for island swagger today as you jump on a high-speed ferry to Mykonos, the Cycladic charmer that knows how to make an entrance. After transferring to your hotel, take a short walking orientation to get your bearings, then it’s over to you. Chase whitewashed lanes, bright shutters, tiny chapels and the kind of sea views that make your camera work overtime. Hungry for more? Add a Choice Experience food walking tour through Mykonos Chora with a Local Guide, tasting local favourites and picking up the stories behind this sun-soaked show-off. The rest of the day? Yours to wander, snack, sip and soak it all up.

  7. 7

    Mykonos Free Time

Snap your fingers and you’ll be on the other side of the island. Well, almost! Spend your day exploring tiny Mykonos your way, or join your fellow travelers for an optional Island Tour driving through arid landscapes to some of its most celebrated beaches. Before dipping your toes into the water, you’ll visit Ano Mera village, home to a 16th-century monastery dedicated to the protectress of Mykonos. Then, continue to the beautiful Blue Flag–awarded beaches.

  8. 8

    Mykonos – Naxos

Mykonos has had its moment, now Naxos gets the spotlight. Start with a free morning your way before hopping on the ferry to this Cycladic favourite, where the pace drops and the appetite kicks in. Get your bearings on an orientation of Naxos town, with its whitewashed lanes, Venetian touches and harbour views all ready to distract you. The rest of the day is yours. Browse, beach-hop, cafe-hop or simply let Naxos win you over. This evening, add a Choice Experience and roll up your sleeves for a Naxian cooking lesson, getting hands-on with the local flavours that make this island such a treat.

  9. 9

    Naxos Free Time

Naxos is all yours today, so play it your way. Linger over coffee in Naxos town, browse the little shops, head for the beach or follow your appetite to a seaside taverna. Want to see more of the island without doing the homework? Add a Choice Experience on an Island Tour of Naxos, taking in the seafront and mountain villages that show off a different side of this Cycladic favourite. Think harbour views, local life and hillside charm, with someone else handling the route. The rest of the day is free to wander, dip, snack or simply let Naxos do its thing.

  10. 10

    Naxos – Santorini

Hop on the ferry to Santorini and watch the Aegean do its thing before arriving on the island that knows exactly how good it looks. After checking in, the day is yours to play with. Chase caldera views, find a sun-soaked cafe, wander whitewashed lanes or simply sit back and let Santorini show off. This evening, add a Choice Experience with wine tasting and a visit to Oia, pairing local pours with one of Greece’s most famous villages. Blue domes, cliffside views and a glass in hand? Not a bad way to end the day.

  11. 11

    Santorini Free Time

Why laze on the sun-soaked beach all day when you could take a tour of Santorini's must-visit destinations instead? Opt for the Santorini Island Tour, which includes a visit to Akrotiri. Pass by charming villages to admire Cycladic architecture and explore the ancient Bronze Age village of Megalochori. Or, take to the water on a catamaran cruise through the caldera, where you can swim, snorkel and soak up the sea breeze. This evening, there’s no better place to bid farewell to another beautiful island day than in Oia. You may take a stroll through its marble streets to the locals’ favourite sunset spot and capture the Instagram shot of the trip.

  12. 12

    Depart Santorini

And just like that, your Greek adventure wraps up with Santorini doing what Santorini does best: stealing the final scene. From ancient citadels and oracle stories to Meteora’s sky-high monasteries, island ferries, whitewashed lanes and caldera views that absolutely knew they were the main event, you’ve packed in plenty. Say farewell to your Travel Director and new friends today, but Greece isn’t done with you yet. The stories, sunshine and “can we go back?” moments are coming home too.

Travel at 60 Social Getaways

Travel further when you're not travelling alone

Our Social Getaways are small-group holidays designed especially for over-60s Australians who want the freedom of a great trip without the work of planning every detail. A Travel at 60 host travels with the group, the operator handles the logistics, and you get to focus on the bit that matters — the people, the places, and the stories you'll bring home.

Open to solo travellers too. Many of our travellers book on their own and find their feet quickly in a friendly group of like-minded Australians. Reduced single-supplement options are available on most departures — ask one of our consultants and we'll talk you through what's offered on this trip.

  • A friendly Travel at 60 host — an Australian face on the ground, looking out for the group from day one.
  • Curated local guides & boutique suppliers — the same operators we'd book for our own families.
  • Real itineraries, not whirlwind tours — comfortable transfers, breathing room, and the “off the beaten track” stops the big bus tours skip.

Want to talk it through? Call 1300 414 198 7 days a week, Queensland time, and one of our consultants will walk you through it.
