Come along on a tour which explains how the idyllic characteristics of Norfolk Island have been challenged and changed by the events of World War II. Your guide will explain the social impact when the major male component of the community joined the fighting forces and departed the island's shores for the duration of the war years. Have explained the equal impact of defense troops being posted to the island. Hear about the wartime construction of the Norfolk Island airport, the destruction of a mile long avenue of mature island pines and the loss of island homes, all to make way for the airport product.
