Day 1 - Perth
Arrive in Perth and be transferred from the airport to your accommodation at the Hyatt Regency Perth.
Day 2 - Margaret River
Margaret River region has to offer. Visit the Crooked Carrot Café for coffee or try one of their delicious cakes. Then off to Cowaramup, a quaint little country town famous for its cow sculptures & specialty retail shops, a perfect place to buy a gift to take home. Stop at the Margaret River township to visit art galleries and get a bite to eat for lunch.
Then off to surfers point to see this world-famous surf break & spot whales in season. Visit a winery to do some wine tasting before visiting some of the region's most spectacular beaches and enjoy wine, cheese and biscuits at Meelup Bay. Finish with a sunset walk along the Busselton Jetty, the longest wooden jetty in the southern hemisphere.
Day 3 - Perth
Today is yours to explore Perth at your leisure. Why not take a ferry over to Rottnest Island, or discover the many parks and gardens around Perth and Fremantle. In the evening don't forget to explore some of the city’s atmospheric laneway bars and restaurants, buzzing with live music and street art. The choices are endless.
Day 4 - Board the Indian Pacific in Perth
After breakfast, make your way to the East Perth Rail Terminal. Your journey from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific Ocean begins as you pull away from the platform in Perth at 9am. Settle into your comfortable cabin and get to know the creature comforts of life onboard. Enjoy a modern Australian lunch as you glide through the picturesque rolling hills of the Avon Valley. After a relaxing afternoon onboard, enjoy a three-course dinner prior to your late evening arrival in the wild west township of Kalgoorlie.
Day 5 - Indian Pacific, Nullarbor Plain
Awake to the spectacular expanse of the Nullarbor Plain to watch the sunrise. Be captivated by the big blue skies and ancient stillness of the desert landscape, broken only by a mob of friendly kangaroos. Waiting ahead is the charm of the once-thriving Nullarbor railway community – now ghost town – of Cook. Sit back and relax as the train continues its trek across the longest single stretch of railway in the world. Another mouth-watering dinner is followed by relaxed conversation in the lounge before a restful night’s sleep.
Day 6 - Indian Pacific, Adelaide
Get to know Adelaide, a true foodie city and the hub of the world-beating South Australian wine industry. On arrival in elegant Adelaide, you have the choice of a walking tour (seasonal), a behind-the-scenes tour of the world famous Adelaide Oval, or a coach tour of the city sights.
Day 7 - Indian Pacific, Blue Mountains & Sydney
Wake in the picturesque Blue Mountains. See the majestic Three Sisters at Echo Point and the views at Jamison Valley before completing your journey on our chartered NSW rail service (fully hosted by our staff) into Sydney Central Station. Alternatively, stay on board the Indian Pacific to travel directly to Sydney arriving at approx. 1130am
Why not extend your holiday and spend a few days exploring Sydney? There's so much to see - from Sydney Harbour to the beaches and the history of The Rocks. Of course, there's also the iconic attractions - the Sydney Opera House, Darling Harbour and the Harbour Bridge to visit and explore. Enjoy a sightseeing cruise or a lunch/dinner/sunset cruise as you explore Sydney Harbour and get a different view of the harbour city. Make your way to Circular Quay to catch a ferry to Taronga Zoo or the northern beaches or to Darling Harbour. Standard of dress onboard the train:
It is your holiday and we want you to be comfortable, so smart casual attire is recommended. Warm clothes are recommended for evenings onboard the train, as the air-conditioning can be cool. It is recommended that guests pack a hat, sunscreen and comfortable walking shoes for off-train touring. Sensible shoes are advisable for walking between carriages.
Cabins onboard the train:
Single Gold Cabins - compact sleeper cabin featuring a bed that converts to a seat by day, private vanity, with shared shower/toilet facilities located at the end of the carriage.
Twin Gold Cabins - comfortable sleeper cabin featuring upper and lower sleeping berths that convert to a three-seater lounge by day. Private compact en suite featuring a shower and toilet.
Luggage Allowance:
Guests should bring an overnight bag to their cabin containing everything needed for the journey. Each guest travelling is entitled to checked in luggage, however checked in luggage cannot be accessed during the journey. In Gold Service, guests are allowed 2 bags x 30kg and guests travelling in Platinum Service are allowed 3 bags x 30kg.
